Hi PaLS...

Just thought that it would be fun to share a little cosmetic tweak for a 200mm lens i got hold of from a fellow CS recently.

The original condition is not that great being an really ond lens...i got to know that its actual about 10yrs old and well used.

Being a G lens painted with the white paint, peeling of the sharp edges portion of the lens is unavoidable unless the lens has been in a museum.

This len i got is in good physical shape but with quite a bad paint peel and the previous owner tried to paint over with a really unmatched color. I decided to peel off the ugly painted areas and some trimming areas that are prone to further peel......so hereis the outcome.

a closer look. I also changed the rubber grip to a newer rubber grip style.

My wife thinks it looks better without the paint....heheheheh.

Notice that the gold label is on the right hand side VS the newer HS-APO version.

Have to admit it looks great.

nicely done on the rubber grip (how you manage to get new rubber grip though)
The painting part still not so matching, may be can show before and after photo so we can tell better on the improvement ;p

Hi Bro...

The rubber is form an old kit lens.
Hmm....i did not paint anything. Just remove the paint fromm the focus limiter ring & the focus ring cover bottom edge.

The original state is ugly with the paint peeling from the focus limiter ring and the focus ring cover bottom edge. Ex owner used white paint(now removed) to patch.

Sorry no previous image....hehe...

You are too free right? :bsmilie:

Hahah...

Yup i was at that time.....i was on a road trip to penang over one of the weekend and i was on my rest turn(my wife driving) so ...happily peeling....

Wah...lens mod. I thought only people in CAR FORUM and COMPUTER FORUM talk about mod here and there...now camera lens also can mod. :bsmilie:

Like the stainless steel look. How do you scrap off the paint without scratches ? Wonder how does paint removal will react on the paint ?

woah... looks very nice   :bsmilie: ;)

Looks very nice bro. So you just peel the paint off using your fingers and nails? The paint can come out so easily?

 ...slowly...with some care. The area around the grip grooves are the easiest....

the next thing you can do........stick glow-in-the-dark stickers on it:bsmilie:
can change lens in the dark quite easily, though i cant see why we need to change lenses in the dark.
