Hi Bro...its the handstrap for vertical grip.
Most people use the handstrap on the existing right landscape orieintation grip.
For me, i use it as a strap for vertical shots. So it actually uses both the strap loops on the vertical grip - left and right.
So in this configuration, when not using the vertical grip, i will push the handstrap forward and then this will help to "stand" the camera landscape up with lens on. Hence avoiding the problem you had with lens leaning forwardwith bottom fornt edge of lens resting on the surface.
