Yesterday I stepped into Cathay photos in Marina Sq , wearing a simple T shirt and shorts browsing around. There were 5 sales at the counter but no one approach me. I walked out and immediately a foreign couple went in. All 5 dashed to them. This is "uniquely singapore" service? Well done.

Why was it whenever this sort of thing happen, it was immediately branded "Uniquely Singapore"? What has any of this do with Singapore? There are bias people all over the world, and there are racists too. Are you saying that all racists and bad service are all from Singapore only?
Seriously...
Plus... normally when I visit any shops, anywhere on Earth, I don't expect people to come rushing to me and serve me. Normally I have what I want in mind and approach the sales person immediately, rather than wait and hope that people would take a notice of me.

Most of this shops are all the same lah....they think foreigners have more purchasing power. Reminds me of the time I was at one shop at Funan Ctr (3rd floor). I was abt to pay for my purchase when a foreigner walked in and the sales guy just switched his attention to him. I said..."Brother, can you settle my bill first". Guess what happened next? The fella was asking for the price of a spare battery and when told the price, he said the other shop was cheaper...then walked out.
I am sorry for what happened.. and my stand is neutral..
If 5 salesman were to approach you yesterday, will you be buying things from the store immediately ?

Most locals prefer to be left alone when browsing, the sale persons just do what we preferred. I do not see any issue about this.
If you did asked anything at that time and being neglected, than, might have some attitude problems about the sale persons.

Yes I did buy from them before, cameras.
No I was not expecting 5 people to dash at me, only 1 would be fine. At least just 1 to ask me what i need cause i really wanted to buy something.
Everyone have different expectations about how to be service in a retail shop. Some like to be left alone while others need help with something, I was one of those who needed assistance cause I was no camera experts.
Overall are you guys all happy with Service in Singapore? have you ever encounter such situations? I believe everyone has. Just a matter of time you get the same feeling I had.

What I don't understand is, why do you need them to approach you? What is so difficult for you to approach them instead. Just go to the salesperson and state what you require them to do, and ask for their advises.
And this had nothing to do with service in whatever countries, basically they are all the same. I have been to Australia (perth and melbourne), been to China (alot), been to hongkong, been to Malaysia... all of them are the same. I need to approach them and ask for assistance, rather than they rushing to me.

better to treat me invisible so I can take my time to see the thing I like and compare around.
since you have vioce your opionon, come to a concluction of not to shop at Cathy Photo anymore.
