thanks for the info... and how much do they sell for?

thanks for the info... and how much do they sell for?

they sell 2 caterpillars for $3....for the tawny coster and Leopard Lacewing...together with one big stalk of leaves (which you need to soak in water or plant it to keep the leaves good for the caterpillar to eat)..
For the plain tiger i tink you need to buy the plant as well....
seems like the caterpillars feed on certain type of leaves only...

How much are they selling it? Where? Any special care required?

It cost $3 for 2 caterpillars.
You just need to change the leaves every morning and evening, clear the shits everyday. They provide the instructions together with the caterpillar and the aunty in the farm will explain clearly to you as well.

Metamorphorsis defect?

not too sure. can be many factors affecting the butterfly. sometimes when they eclose their wings dont dry properly they are as good as dead too as they cannot fly around to mate/ layeggs/feed. easy prey for predators.
only about 1% of the eggs laid actually make it to continuing the cycle of life.

2 plain tiger with a pot of plant would cost $6SGD. Mine ate all the leaves on the plant just before it pupate. (4 days in total from caterpillar) Now the one week wait till the emerge...

The first Tawny Coaster to emerge yesterday. It was out while i am office. Sad.

Please note that a Plain Tiger spends more than 4 days in the caterpillar stage. ;)

thanx for the info....will watch out next time if i do rear the caterpillars again....it is kind of sad to grow them up and see them fly away from you.

Marcellus, do show pictures of the plain tiger. Also it might not take one week. Hopefully the 2 emerge separately so that you have the first one as a timing guide.
Sumball, thanx for the info. My Leopard Lacewing caterpillar took only 1 days before it pupate. So it could have been out there for days before i bought it. The actual timing begin when it pupates.

Good documentary shots! :)
