I was shopping at Carrefour Suntec just 2 days ago. They were having some massive promo for their house brands. And we couldn't find a particular house brand item and was informed it was sold out and no stock at the moment. I was wondering at that time if there was a possibilty that they might be pulling out.... didn't expect it to be true.

they've been talking about leaving MY, SG, Thailand for like 2 years now.

They had pulled out from Thailand already.... now pending to see if they will pull out from Malaysia as well....

They have stated earlier that they want to focus on China... all other markets too kachang puteh to matter.

Someone told me they've abandoned their plan to leave MY and will be staying put, at least for now.
But I don't think they're doing very well in MY compared to say Giant or Tesco.

Another anchor tenant at Suntec City which draws 20 000 people on Sunday also moving out. Carrefour lesser customers

With the rental so sky high....very hard to compete with the like of ntuc...giant....sheng seong lah...across the causeway....got jusco....Tesco and giant again.....so better quit for good...

Ouch.
One less supermarket brand to choose from.
They have a hard time with so many NTUC supermarts and a few NTUC Finest supermarts across the island.

Location is key and Suntec is really out of the way. Transportation is a huge cost for consumers.
At night when the workers have gone home, not many people go to this area.

One would not specially go to Carrefour if there are other good supermarts like Jason, Cold Storage, Giant nearby or conveniently along the way.
