Greetings,

Where is a good place to go snap some really good photos (with good background etc.)? My friends and i have filtered it down to 5 places. But still can't decide on which. Here are the places:

Fort Canning Park
Botanic Gardens
Clarke Quay
Bukit Timah Railway Tracks
Portsdown Road

So opinions?

And whats the best time from 8 to 5 to go?

Hi, What is your definition of a good photo? :) An artistic rendition, an image that evoke an emotional response etc. The 5 locales are known as the usual suspects for want of a better word. For beginners or novices I think you can scratch out the last two places as
the time taken to go there may prove to be not be abundant in photo opportunities.Landscape wise at this moment in time much of the old world charm as disapeared due to redevelopment. The first three have still life, nature and street opportunites so plenty of inspiration.

Try going to the less obvious places like Bukit Brown cemetary or Kranji war memorial where the former is due to be lost for the creation of a new road. There is a small pocket of mangrove modeled like Sungei Buloh next to the new Labrador mrt station in the south where you can proceed to the nearby Labrador park,it has been modernised to include a boardwalk even the world war 2 bunker area has been commercialised sadly. If you have transport there are other obscure places to explore of the places your grand parents have fond memories of.Take the road less travelled. Jalan Sultan and arab street,Tiong Bahru housing estate?

You might have known that for pleasing light or colour the early hours of sunrise to early morning and the time before sunset or late afternoon
are the golden hours. But seriously photos can be taken at all times of the day, only need creativity and photographic knowledge ,skill and practice.Good luck. :)

A place is a good place to photograph if you know how to make it look good. Any place can be a good photographic location if you can improvise and think creatively. A popular location may not be the best place to go, since they are usually shot to death, so your photos will end up looking nice but hardly anything unique.

This weekend - Fort Canning Park
Next weekend - Botanic Gardens
The weekend after next - Clarke Quay
After visiting Clark Quay - Bukit Timah Railway Tracks
After visiting the above four destinations - Portsdown Road

Problem solved :)

Keep it simple, just go any one of this, you have already wasted a day to decide on where to go.
the rest of the place, you can go any other time.

btw, if you plan to go for a model shoot, remember to find a venue has toilets.

I don't even know what you want to shoot....

Insects? Birds? Model? Wedding? Landscape? Dan-bo photos?

Good location is one thing, good light is another, depending on what you're shooting, noon light can be very harsh and might not be an optimal time to shoot at all. It is usually about quality, not quantity. Having more places for whatever you have in mind can be bad, rather than good.

Most importantly, you nv state what kind of photos you guys want to shoot.

All place stated are good place. To snap really good photos..i guess the 1 holding the camera is more important than the place itself.

Palawan Beach is great for Pano shots from the little island over the bridge

There are many places you can go to, but I don't think you need to be bothered so much, just get your camera to shoot, below your house to start with, slowly expand. those places you mentioned and others suggest are good locations also. Slowly can go to various reservoirs, Beaches...etc
