No, it's not linked. A newbie with lots of spare cash will be more willing to spend large amounts on photography than an experienced shoot who is tight on cash.

That is not for us to determine. Anyway, let's end the discussion here, it's going OT.

To TS, if you are worried about Sigma's focusing issue then stick to the Nikon primes. Sigma does allow 2 calibrations free if charge with every new lens but even when calibrated, seems like there's still problems depending on subject distance.
