Hello folks, exciting news from Canon. a 422 50Mbps mpeg2 based CODEC for their next pro camera. This is superb for chroma keying (green screen stuff) Its been a while.. too long in fact. Hoping to see a nice camera soon.
Well, at the end of the day, its still MPEG2 compression....
based on my experience dealing with many different types of footage, cameras using intraframe compression like the DVCProHD is still the best for any potential compositing & keying work.
bro, u sound like a true Panny boy ha ha. But I'm not doubting yr words.. years of experience do count =) anyway, no harm giving Canon a chance b4 trying it right?
Hehehe, not really a Panny guy...70% of my video equipment are Sony stuff...
For SD...Digital Betacam or working in 10bit Uncompressed 4:2:2 is my preferred format...
For HD...HDCAM or working in Uncompressed 10bit 4:2:2 HD is my preferred format....but if that doesn't come close, I'd be happy to settle for DVCProHD.....However, I am finding myself to like Apple ProRES422 HQ compression more....Thanks to advanced compression technology, else I'm constantly running out of HDD space and bandwidth.
I have never liked MPEG2 based compression for mastering & acquisition...they've never left me with good impression since the MPEG-IMX and BetaSX days...very prone to pixelation especially for filming fast motion scenes like for sports.....but it's getting better I must admit.
