thanks all, i do have red eye on. no wonder that thingy keep doing the count down.

well that should be it i guess! thanks for clearing the question!

If you can't find your manual in the package and you are not able to locate the manual on any other media (CD perhaps?) then it's a good thing to check with the shop where you got the cam from. The manual is part of the package you have paid for.
As other have mentioned: ALL functions of a camera are explained in the manual. We will gladly help you if you have question but all the members here in the forum deserve that you do some homework first. That's basic politeness in the same way as people telling you to read the manual first.
Your attitude leaves much to be desired. Learn to accept critics.

1) i did not say the manual was absent.
2) you did not even help(i.e. answering my question), period.
3) the manual says nothing on it. if you're that good. find it on a 450D manual for me.
4) your attitude in helping is also not what is desired. learn to accept you are not all knowing. and not everyone else is stupid.

After all, I would have been quite silly to waste MORE TIME to look through the manual for something which doesn't exist.

PS. thanks for wasting yours, and my breath.

Hi,

i have read and re-read the manual many times... i found the part that sayz abt the countdown. It's actually got something to do with AEB & Flash exposure compensation.

But it only say it is best taken when the countdown finishes.... u can take it before and during countdown as well but the manual states better quality finishing when the countdown is done.

Not sure if it has anything to do with red-eye as i have off my red eye and AF-assist and the countdown is still there as long as i use the flash.

Do hope to be enlightened on this as well.... :)

So you found it finally? Ok, check page 19: It shows you the name and function of the viewfinder elements you have marked in red. One point mentioned there is "Red Eye Reduction Lamp-On Indicator". Check the keyword list and you'll find further explanations at page 59. There is a grey box with further explanations at bottom, 2nd bullet point: "When you press the shutter button halfway the viewfinder display at the bottom will gradually turn off. For best results, take the picture after this display turns off."
This pretty much describes what you have mentioned in your first posting:
the red colored area, the bar, countdown from both left and right to the centre?

PS: In case you can't find your manual in paper form there is still a way to get it online. Follow this link at key in what is required:

The manual is a bit further down the list.

Enjoy reading.

Same sentiments...... how can canon issue manual which does not explain such a simple and basic things

TS, do you know what is the first thing to do after purchasing cam? Charge the battery and read the manual :)

Happy shooting

Hi, all "menu lover" and "squarely mine" out there,to be honest, from my experiences I don''t think you can solve every single doubt by referring to the menu itself. If you really do, means that your doubt is either too basic or you never care to find out at all and ignore it by assuming it should be on the menu anyway.

Btw,I don't really feel all the "menu lover" here are as polite as someone just mentioned, touch your heart before trying to say something unreasonable, and don't try to judge someone by referring to all the " f " words he said. :nono:

Wish all here have a nice day :)
