not sure if anyone can help?

i am shooting with 1dmk4 and using Premier Pro CS4 to do editing
i notice in Premier Pro, the mov files cannot be stream probably at the preview window
its very laggy

and when i render the files into MPEG4 files, the videos have ghosting effect especially subjects in motion. eg a person walking across the frame will look like a faded ghost walking
subjects that doesn't move too much looks ok though

my system specs:
i7
windows 7
CS4 premier pro
6GB RAM
IGB ram video card

i did try to use cineform to convert the the mov files to avi
but all my video players cannot read the converted files(eg VLC, GOM, Media Player, Quicktime)
same for premier pro
it says unsupported format or damaged file

would appreciate if anyone can shed some light to a newbie
thank you so much !!

What version of cineform suite are you using? I bought Neoscene and the converted AVI files are viewable in media player classic.

Additional step is that you have to set up the sequence settings for CS4 for the AVI clips yourself as CS4 doesn't have a cineform preset.

Instructions from the cineform tech blog:

thanks icychilled,

i found out that i have to install cineform on the system doing the editing
previously i converted the files from another PC and transfer them to my editing system
so the codec wasn't there to read to files

now i can view the files and do the editing smoothly
but the other problem is still present

when i try to render mp4 from the mov, the ghosting effect is still there
i have mov of 720p(60fps), 1080p(25fps) from my 1dmk4
when rendered with settings
H.264 | NTSC | 29.97frames | 720x40 | progressive | VBR 2 pass |

the video come out was very poor for the motion

any idea wats wrong?

I'm not sure what the technical explanation might be, but the mov itself is in h.264 codec already. I'm guessing its because you are trying to convert the 25fps footage to 30fps and that causes it to repeat some frames causing the ghosting?

BTW, I personally do not recommend trying to convert the footage to mp4 and then dumping into cs4 to edit because it gives green screens and screws up the timeline. I had to relink the files back to original mov files to solve the problem...

oh yah.. forgot to mention
actually when i use cineform, it convert the mov files to cineform avi format at 30fps
after that then i dump into PP CS4

the reason why i did not use back the original file is becos the original file has proven to hav the ghosting effect as well
i thought an external converter can change the codec and hence solve this ghosting problem
well it proves the problem still exist

it could be my output settings that has gone something wrong but this doesn't happen when i was rendering footages from other videocam like 500D, GH1 etc using the similar settings

how about converting to cineform avi to 25fps as well since it will be the same as your original footage from your 1D? maybe that will remove the ghosting effect?

Do you have any sample to show?

thanks icychilled,

found the reason for the 'ghosting' , something to do with incompatible frames rates of project settings, output settings and videos files

wat do u guys think bout magic bullet grinder?
