A big "Thank You" to USM for organizing this coffee session and all the people who attended.
Judging from the noise level I think we all enjoyed ourselves very much. :)

Hi,
Thanks to USM for organizing this fun coffee session...:thumbsup: Very happy to know so many Canon DSLR users and hope to learn from you guys the way of photography ;)

Anyway, some of you was interested to know what type of equipment are used to took Astrophotography, so below are the two photo of my basic Astrophotography setup:

hi weixing,

that setup can shoot bird?

OMG !!! big big white gun .. !! impressive.

should put a red rubber band on the hood.:bsmilie::bsmilie:

weixing, that reminds me of a SRAW anti-tank weapon... got rocket inside or not? ;)

sorry guys ... had something on last minute, couldn't make it. Looks as though this time round the turn out was much bigger  :bsmilie:

WAHHHHH.... BIG WHITE CANON! ... Pretty impressive setup, the tripod alone is scary.

Thats a heavy duty survoyor tripod.

Hi,
hi weixing,

that setup can shoot bird?
May be possible if the bird don't move that much... hee hee hee ;p

should put a red rubber band on the hood.:bsmilie:
That's a good idea... hmm... where got sell such big red rubber band?? ;p

Thats a heavy duty survoyor tripod.
That's not a surveyor tripod... This is an equatorial mount tripod for Vixen GP series equatorial mount and it's the light duty version... the heavy duty ones are at least around 1.3kg heavier.

I never use this scope to shoot any terrestrial/animals photo, so not sure how will it perform. Since there is no aperture control (I think Vixen used to sell a manual aperture control adapter), you can only shoot it at wide open and a mirror telescope is quite sensitive to temperature changes. Also, I think the contrast will not be as good as those lenses as there is a central obstruction in this scope.

Anyway, the advantage of using telescope is you can get very high focal length at much lower cost (I got a 1.6x barlow which will basically increase the focal length of this scope to 1280mm f/6.4), but the disadvantage is no aperture control and no auto focus.

By the way, may be I should try to use this scope to shoot some photo to test out the performance and to find out whether is it practical to use this scope on photography. Below is some photo of my portable set up for observation which mount the scope on an AstroSlew II Alt-Az mount head and Manfrotto 475B tripod... a more practical photography set up:
