Sorry, I should have put in a smily in the first sentence. I thought the second sentence was very clearly explaining why it did not survive the weekend. My mistake.
I received the following through a PM. It may be of general interest, so I moved into this topic together with my reply.
I think you should have posted the question on the Forum under the right topic so that others could read it and maybe reply to also. I took the liberty to move your question and my answer to the proper topic.
I have the E-500 and the FL-50 and TTL is working. I see no reason why it shouln't, the cable is just a stupid cable, extending the contacts, so I see no reason why it should not work with FL-36 and E-330 combination.

Maybe I should mention that you should never try to use a Canon flash on an Oly camera or an Oly flash on a Canon camera because you may ruit the flash or the camera or both. If you decide to do that, make sure you cover all the contacts except the middle one and it that case the flash works as a normal Auto flash, no TTL. The cable is only for Oly to Oly or Canon to Canon combination.

My cable did not survive the weekend. It fell offer for my DIY tools and ideas. Now it is modified so I can use a PS2 cable to extend the distance between my camera and my flash.

From what I understand, TTL still works with this DIY cord of yours. Does that mean if your FL-50 is closer to your subject than your camera, it will fire off with a high GN which can result in overexposed photos? And vise-versa if camera is closer to your subject? For bounce flash I think there won't be any problem.

TTL works. But TTL can not fix all problems, the flash has its limitations, as every flash. Direct flash is always a problem because it can cause uneven lighting if the flash is too near and not lit up the whole area, like here on this example.
However, TTL works where it could be expected to work under these very unfair conditions. If I would have used a longer tele lens the area of coverage would be evenly lit and you would not see any problems in the picture. Of course, if I wanted to take a picture of the same area, I would not place the flash so near. I have always used off camera flash whenever possible since about 25 years and it has never been a problem but you have to know where to place the flash. Most of the time I keep the flash in place and I move around with the camera. I try to avoid direct flash whenever I can because, picture is better with indirect.
In the above example the camera was about four meters from the book shelf and the flash abot 0.7 meters. 50mm lens is used, and I chose full auto mode to see if the camera can handle the flash. Normally I use A, S or M mode. Seldom Auto and almost never any of the program modes.
The above was taken with the flash about 1.5 meters from the camera in 10 o'clock direction, flash pointing to the roof. Apart from the dirty mirror, I think TTL is working right.
