would it be advisable to buy canon lenses from malaysia? cos from what i noticed... lenses from malaysia are more expensive than in singapore.

That is not true. As far as I know, most lenses, especially the L lenses are cheaper in M'sia. In M'sia, there is a different in street price vs retail/manufucturer recommended price. I was looking for the 35mmf1.4L and Cathay quoted me SGD2100. I can get this in M'sa for roughly SGD1970.

sorry. maybe i didn't say it properly... i was considering buying it in JB but decided not to after looking at the price... but with prices aside... would anyone buy camera lenses from malaysia... whether its canon or other lenses...

My only motivation would be price..

Quality is the same no matter where you buy.

Another good thing about buy in Singapore is that it is "safer". Can go back and scream, call case, call police, or whatever.. Msia cant do that

Service maybe. But if youre concerned about the quality. I believe it should be the same...

recently bought a piece from MO, and realized from the reveipt that its 4600HKD, around 800+SGD.
which is kinda sick cause i paid 1750SGD for my lens...

well, i guessed u made the choice to deal with the middleman, where his prices are cheaper than u can get in Singapore shops. So what is there to complain about? If you want a receipt that shows e.g.$2000, then go get from shops in Singapore. At the end of the day, the product you get is the same. However, if u feel better paying 4600HKD for the same product, then fly to HK to get it yourself. :sweat:

I don't think can get a 24-70 for 4600HKD in HK... market rate for consumers is about 9200+/- in HK, which equates to about S$1600+/- based on the current rate. Hope this helps.

oh well, with all that has been said... do you guys know of anywhere in malaysia possibly KL that sells canon or 3rd party lenses? i'll be going in again next thursday for a few days.

DO take note in Mal. Canon has change their authenticity stickers on prod for their purposes of warranty n etc.

As you can see there are some recond and etc.

Before you buy check the lens carefully as it may be the only set in the shop esp the L lens.

KL can go to the "Pertama Mall/square" next to Sogo. Got lots of camera shops there.

Canon customer care/ show room is in Berjaya Time square

Canon show rooms also in MidValley megamall

Midvalley has lots of cam shops too, more ex than BB/sungeiwang

I would go for BB plaza as they can bargain more.

Tamron in mal is slightly cheaper esp the conversion rate now is going for 2.37 ->1

well, i was in JB 2 weeks back asking them how much the brand new tamron 17-50 is. its just $20 cheaper than singapore. so i think singapore is more realiable and worth it.

hmmm my hotel is just opp KLCC when i go there next week. i think its Zon hotel. hopefully my dad drives to sungie wang. with reference to Times Square... where are the camera shops along sungiewang nearer to times square where they are the best bargains?

JB price not so attractive. In Mal most distributors are in KL so KL stuff is better price. IMHO

Try BB/Sungei wang level 1 or 2 one shop sell canon n tamron at quite reasonabl price. IN KL
I think Tamron is cheaper. Sigma hv not bought any so wont know.

KLCC area not cheap ho.

Always ask for local warranty.
