Yah, I use the 2 sec self timer too...

No remote for S2/S3. The S1 had it, no idea why Canon got rid of it ;(

What I do is set the self timer to 2 seconds. I will prefocus & lock exposure, then press the shutter. That is how all my night shots are taken.

Just make sure that the slave flash is compatible with digital cameras. Digi cams have a preflash before the flash fires, the slave must be able to recognise this. It helps if the slave head can tilt/swivel and zoom manually.

Im looking for a tripod that can retract and stuff it in a bagpack or slingbag. Any tripod that can do that? How much and where can i get it? :)

It depends on how big/small your backpack or slingbag is, isn't it? Most tripods should be able to be retracted when not in use.

Does the speed of the SD card plays an important role for S3? I was using the normal speed Kingston SD card for taking fireworks and it seems that it took a while for the image to be written to the card. I disabled review. I know that for dSLR, having a high speed memory card plays an important part, but for prosumer like S3, does it make a significant difference?

Also, if I were to buy an adapter for S3 & mount it with a filter, would I still be able to zoom the lens?

You mean you're using the original Canon adapter and is able to zoom fully? Do you have to take out your filter when zooming?

High speed cards are needed if you want to shoot in burst mode or take long movies. I shot 15min of fireworks videos using my 150X 2GB card, did not have any problem.

I am using a Raynox 52mm and a lensmate 58mm. No problems with both of them.

No need to remove filter and all. The Raynox adapter is the shortest, it is the closest to the lens of all the adapters & I do not have an problems with it.

 So if for S3 it won't make any difference between a high speed & normal speed memory card for taking fireworks?

It should not. Anyone else shotting with normal speed cards?

Hi cerebrus, I am using 66X card and I can take full length 8min video with no prob too, so I think 66X is also good enough.

I remember somewhere in one of the S3 threads, someone mentioned that his 3rd part adapter has interference with the S3 lens during full zoom. Someone else advised him to get a filter stepper of the same size (58-58 or 52-52) to extend the adapter, so that the filter will not interferes with the lens....I think it's somewhere...

I use the standard speed 512mb dat comes with the camera too. It is ok for pic, except when I am taking full length video, it's choppy. I duno about burst mode for pic with the standard card though.

Maybe its some brand other then Raynox or Lensmate. I have never had problems with both of these.

That's good.:)

Mine Mine! My metal 3rd party adapter was too short for the S3 at it's full zoom. Luckily, the shop added in a 58-58 thread. And my S3 lens is safe from the filter.

I remembered someone had the same problem but I don't think he got the 58-58 thread adapter.

the adapter is good! solid, so far so good. :)

How much did you pay for your adapter? My Lensmate and Raynox were about $45 each, metal. I like the lensmate, the finish is the same as my camera, so you do not know that it has an adpater mounted. All I now need is a sliver/grey Ultrasonic lens cap. :bsmilie:

Did you buy your lensmate adapter online and had it delivered to you? I read from the forum there's a fellow CSer McGill who has a website sellling Raynox, which is a cheaper way of buying?

Would we be able to get it from AP, CP or MS, or even at SLS?

:)
