Hmm, interesting this Thread had captured the interest of so many CS bros.

Bros, there are THOUSANDS of us using Clubsnap forums, meaning at any one point in time should you be wanting to buy a 70-200 f4 IS or any other lenses, you can be sure, there are at least another 3-5 more Bros also wanting to buy.

In times of all these shops increasing their price (some may be really due to Canon distributor increasing its price, but soon, when word goes round, you will see profiteering from shops, as in the GST increase in Spore- everytime GST increase by 2-3%, shops will quietly incrrease 5-6% but nobody actually goes calculating, and nobody sees the profiteering, but it WILL happen, same for camera shops).

My SUGGESTION is for Clubsnap BROS to get together and do MASS ORDER:
A mass order of let's say a 70-200 F4 IS, so many bros surfing the NET would come across a RELIABLE and CHEAP internet site and then gather 3-5 bros to ORDER TOGETHER and SHARE the shipping cost.

That would mean easily a saving of close to or even more than SGD$100 +/-. Definitely worthwhile. And when demand for local shop Canon drops so much because everyone is buying from internet, then Canon Singapore realise they have to lower their prices to stay viable.

If we pay the price increase, they increase the price more: If we do Mass Order more, they have to DECREASE their prices- simple.

Time to UNITE bros! Buy Mass Order from Internet and save money.

Oracle where are you? :bsmilie::bsmilie:

I was quoted $1160 by CP Marina for EF 10-22mm.... I was pretty shock for the sharp increase..... sign.... should have bought the lens before the increase....

Yea the last i checked john was selling it for 960. $200 bucks. honestly, the real value of camera bodies remain the same or depreciate. The increase, as you all know, is due to exchange rates. Just don't buy now loh. Quite straightforward. Maybe for lenses (the really good ones) prices can remain the same or increase a little, but overall the real value should still be the same.

PPLE, just don't buy now.

I second your proposal but the key is getting someone reliable cos we not talking about pocket change here.

It is very sad that when recession is so bad and everything is increasing in price, so Marc Faber call is correct, when the central banks and govt start bailing out all the banks, inflation will set in and may lead to hyperinflation.

My photography hobby is one thing, even my daughter baby milk and wipes also gone up in price. When i was in seoul, korea, i could get a very decent dinner for SGD$11 (plus drinks) but a bit rare to find that in sg.

anyway, just ranting. hope u guys dun mind :embrass:

no need.just add a line +20% as of 010309.ha ha ha.damn.

Yeah, the 17-40L was about $1,300 just 3-4 years ago, before it dropped and dropped and ended up at $999. With the increase, it is now probably $1,200-1,250. And if you put $1,300 in the bank 4 years ago, it is probably worth $1,350 now even at savings interst rate, so the lens is actually cheaper now even with the increase.

When i got mine 2 years ago, was $1239. I guess now it's back to around this price or slightly less.

Exactly my thoughts. Prices are creeping back to early 2007 prices.
Those prices started dropping from Apr 07 thru to end 08.
So now i can sell my 1 yr old lenses at the same price I bought it!

I suppose it's higher 2nd hand prices too.

Canon might alter the warranty rules and not support those lenses bought outside if Singapore. They are already moving towards that direction. To me if you need the lens, just buy it even if it cost 50% more now. If you really need the lens means the lens will help you earn back 3 to 4 times what you spend. If the lens is just for personal "fun" and shoot some useless XMM, then save the money. Get a PnS and shoot them can liao since it does not bring you any values and still have to pay for the shoot.

Even if the Yen comes down. I suspect they won't surrender the price increase also.

Canon must have felt that now it has enough customer base, enough enticing people buying their dslr, look at the record set during canon photo marathon, hence now start increasing the price :bheart:

Not only Canon has increased their prices, Nikon has also.

damn it, i was about to buy a 50/1.8, anyone has the latest price for this lens?

OK, who from Clubsnap are open to start a new camera shop? No nonsense shop. Goods direct from Canon / Nikon. No grey sets. Targeted market. Lens and body only. No PNS and no large SKU of accessories.

If got anyone interested, please PM me and we talk. Maybe end up TCSS, maybe end up as a great alternative for everyone.
