am looking to get a new camera, mostly looking at the canon powershot 710IS.
however, seeing that its quite an old model ('old' in terms of technology timeline :P) maybe i should wait for an upgrade to a better processor and all? what do you all think?

and furthering that, any recommendations for a good camera with fairly extensive manual control and about a 6x zoom other than this one?

I have a new A710IS. Actually was looking at the A570IS until i decided to get the A710IS mainly due to better design and built, metal and plastic body construction, 6X zoom (4X not so practical) and made in Japan compared to A570IS which is made in China.

Yes the A570IS is newer with Digic III with face detection and ISO 1600 but both models have very gd set of manual controls. So the decision is yours.

errr... its not MIC, its Made In Malaysia lah :sweatsm:

Oh yah haha...misread that. But as long as not made in Japan.

aiya, never mind lah.. who cares where its made from.. as long as the features are good, and it can do what it claims to be.. good enough..

if like this, all F31fd users can bang balls liaoz.. coz their camera is made in china :bsmilie:

Where it's made from does make a difference. The manufacturing quality.

:dunno: aiya... these cameras are all normal consumer cameras....
manufacturing quality??? okie, but then i have seen F31FD beats the daylight out of Canon Powershot series in terms of low light photography... dun care about manufacturing quality.. its the stuff inside that counts... :sweatsm:

and these days, who would use the same old camera for say more than 3 yrs? by then, really antique liaoz lah...

my gut feeling, is to get the camera that fits ur needs, and dun be so bothered with where its made from?

if i wasn't into full manual control, i would have gotten F31FD, be it its made in china.... dun worrie so much.. though A570IS is made in malaysia, its features are indeed better than A710IS ;)

its only $400+/- camera, nvm lah :sweatsm:

ya lor.. just now i was in vivo, i played with the S5IS.. used ISO1600, wah piang really as noisy as my A570IS..

and its biggest aperture is only F2.7, compared to A570IS of F2.6.....
no wonder there was a CSer who bought it and regret it big time.. and the number of steps in the 12X optical zoom was pathetic  heng i never buy it

ISO1600 on the S5 is still usable unless u print big pics. I find the 12X zoom on the S5 awesome! Can vary speed and very fast.

Those were the first generation of PowerShot A series cams so technology also no that advanced.

true.. and well a photo speaks a thousand words.. check out my noobie photos from A570IS in my other thread.. i find that the colors and etc are good
