How come i cannot concur with you?

wth, some winnng shots are really no sense yet it can win...not to say i am being a sore loser but seriously some pictures are crap, like taking a picture of a canon camera and u can win a prize, plus the competitors WEARING the canon clothes itself is able to go in...

those are conceptual shots. When you have thousand others competing with you these are stuffs that make your shots stand out from the rest, apart from having different viewpoint/perspective(like the playtime winners) and also posed models(saloon shots).

Just face it, judges do like these kind of stuffs from what you can see from the winners(or even shortlisted entries). The next time you go for other competition, you know what to do ;)

Just like in advertising, u want to impress the creative directors, give them the basic bare bones - sketches in pencils, doodlings, all they want is the idea/concept.

they don't care about how much time you spent on photoshop or buying much materials from the art shop to beautify. If the pencil scratchings is a great idea, you worthy to be recruited.

Likewise its the same here i guess, just do the bare minimum and impress the judges, that's the main aim. If idea is good, it doesnt matter if your shot has bad lighting, noisy background, no rule of thirds idealogy, no pattern/lines/colors (stuff which Mr.JC so painfully preached during the seminar). As long as it's a good idea and the judges love it.

I believe it's gonna be the same next year, so let's stop complaining and start practising. Go Go Go!!! :bsmilie:

well i still dont get this one

hope no one is really offended by my photo (btw the canon camera shot was mine) i just literally tried my luck with the idea and really didn't expect to get the prize. :(

i dun think they are blaming you.
Dun so stress, u dun owe anybody anything for this competition.
Probably the canon people or judges may be reading this thread, i believe definitely
they value the feedback here. Let's hope for improvement next year. :bsmilie:

You are refering to the one where the buried hand was trying to take a picture with the camera? I thought I was a nice idea.

For me, "the theme" playtime" can also mean a playful shot, which your picture conveyed quite creatively. Congrats.

the buried hand one is ok but there were really many better ones.. the judges going for pictures with pple repeatedly jumping that's quite bias. at least the best of show winner was really good.

furthermore almost everything shot within radius of suntec and right to its core at carrefour! that is really :thumbsup:

To paraphase Cosgrove in his seminar the week before the competition, photos with ideas that are too similar will tend to cancel out each other in terms of impressing the judges.

Maybe it is reflected in the numerous entries with childen either in the playground or water fountain? :dunno:

Not to say anything against entries with childen and playground, I myself submitted something along that idea.

you referring to my shot with that big canon lens?

erm, i dont really have a choice. i use canon, and that's the only other lens that i have. (i used a tamron lens to shoot that picture..)

=(

I guess his was the most consistent amongst the youth category. I believe that was what the judges were looking for?
:think:its tough i guess. for my 1st and 2nd theme picked the wrong pick. nxt year i will use my creative side

i wonder if nxt year you shoot the person when he jumps you can still get price.

This world is never fair. The smartest and most hardworking need not be the richest people in the world. ;)

Photography is very subjective and it's an art. And where judging of beauty is concerned, as the saying goes, it lies in the eyes of the beholder. Which explains why I've never thought of joining the competition, no matter the attractive prize.

Will not mention names, but I do agree that some shots are not how I would rate as winning shots as I feel, there are better ones. Some are good but a handful are clearly too "fixed up" or posed that I don't think qualify as winning shots. But who cares? Different judges have different criteria and preferences. I'm sure if you were to get second opinions elsewhere, the winners won't be winners.

But let's not be sour grapes, at the end of the day, they are still judged to be winners. So congrats to them!

hehehe... the results are out... nothing can be change...
so just receive it and congratz to all winner...

btw anyone have the photos of the canon girl that helping the prize presentation... the very pretty one? wanna see her again.. >_<

after 5 years...this year has the most salon.........perhaps they should rename it......photosalon marathon.......too extreme i have to add
