Canon Over Nikon

Other than being curious about what a D300 mounted on a radio controlled helicopter looks like, am also wondering what kind of pictures this is used to take?

There are still differences between Canon and Nikon. For eg, high ISO performance of the bodies, lenses with large aperture (Canon's f/1.2 vs Nikon's f/1.8). You have to know what's your needs and preferrences.

If photography is your hobby, then maybe these factors are not as crucial...
