CANON or NIKON DSLR (Budget - $1600)

Hi everyone,

After the Photomarathon 2006, I have fallen in love with photography. I'm planning to get a DSLR but have problem choosing one. I hope friends here can advise me on which brands/models and which shop can i get a good deal.

Budget: $1600 (kit)

some will tell you canon, others will say nikon. go to the shop and decide for yourself.

Nikon lenses are expensive, but very good.
Canon body in not so handy, but has the latest sensor.

so its hard to decide which brand to choose.

Camera doesnt make any difference, if you dont know how to take good pictures.

Hi.. D80 is above my budget. I was actually choosing btw D70s and 400D. I love the grip for D70s but not the screen. I quite like the outlook and the capabilities of 400D.

My mistake, I meant CMOS.

Comparing the D80 to the 30D, The Nikons has more direct control buttons and some say has better light metering. Many of the Canon controls are only in the menus.

I can verify that Canon has terrible Auto White Balance in Tungsten lighting.

Megapixels is important but not does mean everything. The older cameras that some guys suggested like Nikon D50, D70 or Canon 10D, 20D are pretty decent for your budget.

I also using my old 350D, veri happy with it still.

D70s good enuff for A3 still, but ppl likes to overkill.

Got dope I suggest D80. 11AF. but funni, they decide on SD card.

For your budget; get the Canon 400D :thumbsup:
