What is the best prices for a new Canon 70-200 F4 L USM ans 75-300 F4-5.6 IS USM?
70-200 F4 L USM - is 1200+ a good price for this lens?
75-300 F4-5.6 IS USM? - is 900+ a good price for this lens?

Thanks

You're talking about brand new lenses?

Buying 70-200mm f4L from US (BH) is cheaper. It shld costs ard $1000+ with the drop in US$. :bsmilie:

what's the best price new locally?

harlo!

get the 70-200/f4L. the last i check at MS color, it was going for ad $1.2k. u can get 2nd-hand ones on CS for ard $900+. ;)

Thanks for the infor, how about the 75-300, anyone has any idea?

Definitely the 70-200 F4!
As mentioned above, you can get a brand new one from US around $950-1000 inclusive of shipping. Since warranty is international, dun think that's a problem.

have to add 5% for gst but it's still cheaper than local shops :)

Has anyone tried the 70-300 DO IS U? I think pricing is around S$1200. Pretty light, got IS and USM, and a green band! You may like to consider this as well Danntbt. Here's a pic which I've taken using this lens:

The 70-300 DO IS is slightly less than $2k.... it's an expensive piece of glass but it's pretty compact for its features and image quality.

Ey strange.

I tried out this lens during the Canon Pro-ShutterBug event III last week. I exchanged this lens with the Canon guy with my 17-40LU. Later I joked with him and say that why don't we keep this exchange, ie, he keep my 17-40LU and I take his 70-300 DIU. He joked and said please go ahead and he'd be happy to trade a L with a DO, since there's not much pricing between the 2 lenses.

I got the 17-40 for around S$1200. So I thought the 70-300 should be around that price too.

Skip the 75-300 IS ... you're paying for 1st generation IS (rather weak IMO) and optically speaking, it's also somewhat par with its non IS sibling ...

Thanks for the inputs guys, am buying for my school's photographic club, so have certain budget constraint, I am looking for something betw 1200-1400, plus a straight fowrward purchase rather than from oversea as the red-tapes in schools are real nightmare. Though am keen to push for the 70-200 2.8, even a second hand one is above 1.5K. The 70-300 sounds good, but will need to look at the pricing, the 70-200 F4 sounds good too.

Most websites would sell for about that price.

Adorama - USD$580 without $25 rebate

BHP - USD $580 without $25 rebate
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=183198&is=USA

With the current exchange rate, should work out to be about $1000 without rebate. If you have a friend to get the rebate for you in US, it'll be cheaper. ;)

Are you sure the guy traded you the 70-300 DO IS and not the 75-300 IS, the DO is almost twice the 17-40mm L, the 75-300 IS is rather poor compared to 17-40mm F4 L.
