Hey guys, you all should know that the original mug was only given during the Olympic. There is no way you can get an Original Canon Mug unless you are getting from the photographers who were presented with the mug.

Currently, I believe only 2 suppliers in China manufactured these mug. See below link.
http://www.alibaba.com/trade/search?SearchText=canon+mug&Country=&IndexArea=product_en&ssk=y

Price is from USD$10 to USD$25 depending on the quantity and these are the replica mug only.

I believe there is an infringement of copyright issues of using Canon word, designs and logo in the replica mug. Maybe bros here can comment.

I recently saw this email screenshot in the internet about the investigation which Canon is currently doing.

Will buyers be penalised for buying such mug? Comments?

I saw the 3rd edition of the 24-105 mug which come with the hood. Amazing!!.. In no time, we will have camera body plates, remote chopsticks, camera lunch box or even the 600mm lens pail?

This is the source:
http://currentphotographer.com/cano...ens-travel-mug-with-estore-purchase-over-200/

What I’m getting is the surplus from Canon Canada. There is NO more, and some bros who have asked me before to increase the orders but I declined because the investigation mentioned actually halted the distributer selling more..

Sorry i do not mean to make things worst but did you confirm that those mugs are from Canon canada or it is from China? Understand that in other forums, facebooks, flickr, those mugs from Canon canada were sold out within 2 to 3 days. Therefore, i am not sure if these mugs are actually from Canon Canada even though they are shipped from Canada.

I did not see any complaints from those who have gotten the mug from Canada.

Maybe my assumption is wrong. :)

Sure no worries.

As you can see I do believe the quality issues are sporadic, but definitely there - this reviewer notes it too.

First of all, a non-profit MO is NOT meant to be used as a personally profitting vehicle.

ALL members who took part in the non-profit MO are advised to collect and pay for the items on grounds of personal ethics because it is a JOINT PURCHASE.

Backing out just because one fella post a bad review on the products after the entire shipment has arrived is just totally ugly and immature.

After all, it is you who wanted the item which was not available here or wanted it cheaper than what you can obtain locally. And now because some chap took the initiative to pay the bill first, you bail at the first sign of a perceived bad deal, letting him carry the financial burden alone.

This is the stuff that makes us want to do away with personal MOs altogether.

We dont want to impose a ruling that full payment must be made when ordering at the risk of the organiser running away with the money, nor do we have the infrastructure to hold on to the funds till the whole thing goes thru like paypal, ebay or escrow.

I'm pleased with the way shanekua and flightspeed are attempting to salvage the situation but i fear the damage is already done.

I hope this entire situation gets settled in a way that hurts least for everyone.

ts - bear with it while they try to sort this out.

HiHi... I'm one of them in the MO too... I would like to justify to you guys that you are getting the REAL stuff instead of the fakes. I repeat, Its REAL

First of all: From 'Flightspeed':
more !!!!
c.jpg
Yea. When i saw this, i'm tulan also. I tot i have been scam. Messaged shane to do alot of confirmation.

Second of all: Look at this picture from www.canonmugs.com:

Pre_Order_10_X_C_4b9a383f3e90e.jpg

Isn't it the same as yours? Flightspeed... Zoom in and see the AF/IS. Its also kosong... Even the rubber grip in the picture is abit croaked.

PS. I believe I'm the first one who collect the mugs and cup, Shane should know me... Haha.
YES. The 70-200 mug is weird, the rubber is out of shape. This can be fix. Just adjust it... You are suppose to take it out for first use to wash...
Same for the 24-105.

Another question from you guys perhaps. Is www.canonmugs.com a ebay-like website or some china website? Don't worry. I have asked canon about this. See:

untitled-1.jpg

Need to emphasize the sentence from Canon: "The EF Lens Collector is from canon US Website. " Yea, i know that Canon cannot confirm about whether its official or not... But seeing so many review about the mugs, Its all the same design. The AF/IS is kosong. No worrys. I've paid for 2 Mugs and 2 Cup.

I hope this can calm you down about the lousy quality and the cheapo-like design.
Hope that you didn't empty your dustbin too.

Cheers :D

This post is not to invite flame and flame more about this cup. I really appreciate that shane hosted this MO. Flamer to this post, either prepare your hou-tai or shoo please. Thanks.

Canon is not so enrich as Shimano*... Where Shimano have their warehouse from japan... While Canon don't have their warehouse, where they make lens or other accessory. Thats why All canon lens/accessory is either made in Japan or Malaysia.

You should clarify that which country is supplying this mugs.
Cheers :D Mean no harm.

*Shimano: Bicycle parts company. (I'm not promoting their company)

maybe u should get the new nikon mug. hahahha

FYI, Canon flash is made in Japan as well as China.

I can assure you guys that the China Chinese are farked up Business man who cares about their profits more than anything else. Just look at their history: Milk scam, sub-par Car quality etc
I am somewhat assured that the 70-200mm collector cup is authenic and the same as distributed from Canada. However, I did alert Shane regards on the 24-105mm lens cup that is might be a made in CHINA FAKE. I am not sure if shane alert the buyers for 24-105mm or not.

Despite this, I AM UTTERLY disappointed that NO ONE ACTUALLY THANKED SHANE for all his trouble, risk and effort for the community who gian the collector lens mug. If the quality is not up to your expectation, we cannot fault shane as he is JUST AN MO organiser. Instead, he should be credited for being first to initiate someone no one ever done in CS.

I hereby URGE ALL MEMBERS in MO to honour the deal, as SHANE does not deserve to the left out cold just because the quality of the lens cup might not meet your expectation.
THank you.

**FYI, I am not shooting at flightspeed, but I will sure shoot at anyone who suddenly denied and left the MO without paying just because the lens cup is lousy quality.

I'm not sure about the flashgun... lol, cox my ex270 and ex580 is both from japan... lol
Yea... Agree on soons. I believed that 90% of you guys involved in this MO only complain about the quality, blah blah blah... Instead of saying:" Thank you shane"

Stop complaining about the quality... I guarantee for shane, with my Camera and lens rolling on the floor that your 70-200 is guaranteed real. I cannot guarantee the 24-105. lol, cause there are not enough evidence to support that the 24-105 is real or fake.

Shane is doing his best to get this MO a success while studying for his exam. Well, now the mo orders is now in his outstanding 25-floor house, just get your butt there and try out the 25 floor lift and pay for the mug...

Some didn't even paid for the deposit and yet, Shane has to pay for the Fee himself first before you do...

I know i'm abit harsh about this words... And in this forums, Its not shane fault and yet he apologized about the quality.

And, If his friend gets the 24-105 from the same supplier, why would it be fake? The supplier is already selling the genuine 70-200...
Not everything is made to perfection... Not everything you get what you expect.

PS. I have thanked him. :D

Cheers :D

I think Canon Singapore or their staff does not even have much information about the mugs.
Done a check on canonmugs.com and you can find many things out of place.

Give you an example: The website was registered in Mar-10 and it is only registered for 1 year. Do a check on all companies web address, most are registered for 2 years or more. Definitely not 1 year. Canon.com was registered in 1990 for 20 years which will be expiring in Nov2010.

There are other loop holes which you can find easily. I can reveal more but i leave it to those who already know how, to check all these.

I did thanks him ;p. Lame stuff aside, I do hope shane get to clear all his flask and mug. If there is any help required, do sound out and we will be glad to help. (@ least I will)

Thank you soons and xdoggyxx. Your research is truly appreciated. :)

Two final words from me on this issue.

1.) As I told soons the last time:

Me and my friend have been doing quite a bit of research, so here’s what we know,

At the moment the 24-105 is not officially Canon licensed. However, the interesting thing is the manufacturer who first introduced it is the same manufacturer of the 70-200 official thermos as well! One can only speculate that after Canon asked them to do the 70-200, they thought it such a great idea to make of a different lens.

2.) (the info comes from the canadian supplier who sold my friend the mugs.)

There will be no more 70-200 from my source because Canon now knows a.) the manufacturer is producing more to sell, b.) suppliers are not adhering to the distribution of the 70-200 which is supposed to be a promotion for purchase of camera gear and are instead selling the mugs. So there is a genuine clamp down on dealers now. I will not be able to get more mugs. And I probably won’t want to already :P

Right that’s all from me. Hope this ends the mystery. :)

Oh my god... this is gonna be a rebate on the mug... First of all... This mug was introduced this year... I repeat, THIS YEAR. You think copyright fee very cheap meh? You think the paperworks very simple arh??? Why would they host up the web before the product is out???

Please don't think that the world is in your control...

Just be more open-minded...

Ai ya, just close the thread and take it as a lesson learned. Also I would like to suggest that non-profit MO be handled by more than one person in the future ba. It lowers the pressure and financial burden on an individual. I realised quite a number of people requesting status on the goods when shane is busy preparing for exam. (They reply the mail which is sent to all so even I got the mails.)

ok no more debate.. i leave it to those who know what i am talking about. Registration can be in Mar10 but it cannot be 1 year only. Googles search engine has some checks (might be the wrong terms to use) on all website registered for 1 year only. Not too sure about the full details.

Another example:
The company profile is set as private which will not be the case for public company. All website will show their HQ address in the Whois profile.

Many other things can be detected and i am quoting 2 to 3 example.

I rest my case as i am quoting the fact not making up all these.

Thanks

no point arguing. lets hear what canon sg has to say. if its really a fake then just let canon take the necessary action.

Hi, lesson learned for who? O.o to be honest, shane did a good job. Really good job. Its just take people are starting to flame this VERY SUCCESSFUL MO which perhaps they are jealous that they are not in the MO?

Not sniping on anyone... But if you think i am, well, you are right.

Cheers :D
