Canon L Lens rubber turning white


my 1ds mk2 has white stains all over the rubber grip parts. i jus took a lil face moisturiser hand apply evenly all over. it looks n feels new.

suspected it to be dry so give it a lil polish. now its shining.

Dead skin, dirt, grime and dried up sweat.

Just clean it with something clean. :D
 

This happened on my sigma AFTER SERVICING and i managed to scratch it away.
 

I tried using just a damp cloth for mine, but still it's there after drying up.
 

For the fungus, you can wipe them by rubbing alcohol. It should be able to kill them and stop them from growing.
 

After cleaning the fungus, the white stain can be removed/repaired by a lens rubber cleaning pen. I tried it on my old Canon EF 35-135. It works just great. You can find the pen by searching "Lens Potion" in google. I am too new to put links and photos here. ;)

Baby oil can restore the blackness but it will leave the surface greasy and slippery. It also leaves a funny scent on the lens. I use to smell the second-hand lenses and cameras before paying. Sometimes I smelled WD40, olive oil and Kiwi shoe polish. :confused:
