Hi guys

I'm considering the 860IS as well as a portable shooter for my honeymoon. Anyone knows whether underwater shoots on the 860IS will be decent? I'm not sure if asking this in the Canon subforum is a good idea.... but how does this compare with other similar range compacts, e.g. Sony T200?

Also how much is the Canon waterproof casing and where can I get it?

Thks in advance!

Hi guys,

I am also looking at purchasing the IXUS 860IS. The LCD is the thing that has swayed me it looks great!

The only thing that is holding me back is the slightly unfavorable reviews that I found on the net.

Do you think that these guys reviewing are being too picky? I love taking photos and wish to purchase this camera for our holidays, when I don’t want to take my 350D with all the lenses!

Your responses would be appreciated.

for me, as long as the image quality is not compromised, it should be a good buy. comments are subjective. i tried out the camera at best denki and was very impressed with the ease of use. would love to be able to see the images on a computer screen tho. why not go to the shops and try it out yourself?

no doubt the Ixus 860 IS is a wonder cam and like any other canon its shots r nothing less than perfect so if u don't care bout the price and the small zoom should be a slim nice cam.:D

From my personal experience, internal zoom or if you want to be technical the folded lens system, usually doesn't perform to expectation and suffer from many issues. Sony may have all the marketing buzz words "wide screen" "HD output" and etc but seriously it is hard to use as a camera. In order to change a setting, exactly lk a PSP, you have go into the menu and search. Tried it the other day, in order to change the ISO, i had to press like so many buttons before a setting can be found and set correctly. Image quality and focusing speed aint good either. For Fuji and Canon, setting are easily set as the function are usually not buried deep in the manual.

For compact camera, go for either Canon Ixus or Fuji F-series. :) 860IS is a compact camera with decent image quality. It will not give u what DSLR can promise but is a good holiday cum family camera to have.

There is a current promotion if I am not wrong. Free extra battery if you pay by Standard Chartered credit card.

I bot from Japan at abt $450, no SD cards, llocal Japanese warranty.
The model# is different, ixy910IS, but the specs are the same.

Canon IXUS (all) and Powershot (most) all don't have a battery meter for some reason. It only prompts you when your battery is running out. That's it.

What other freebies comes with your purchase?

So far how do you find the cam?

Cheers

Comes with a camera kit bag and a 2Gb card. Only had the opportunity to try it last night, indoor, looks good. I like the feel of the camera... it's study though it's small. :)
