3rd party ink usually will not work properly on your printer because the printer was never calibrated for that ink. hence, the colors will probably be wrong. (if you don't care, i suppose you can still accept bad colors.)

also, the ink may have components that may react badly to your printer. (cause clogs, eat your PCB, etc) i wouldn't trust 3rd party ink.

in the end, you have to decide if you can accept that versus the amount of money you can save by buying that ink. is the price difference worth it?

agree on wat u say...cos recent PC shows i see n hear ppl buying 3rd party inks all over...
check its ink price already...still can afford original n should last quite sometime b4 need replacing..

some of these low end printers cost $60-$80 only. But the ink cartridges $20.
if you do the maths, people would rather buy compatible ink for much less and save. If the ink cartridges kill the printer, they simply buy a new printer. The only way they can stop or slow this third party market is to price the cartridges more reasonably.
My Epson printer cost around $200 and to replace all the ink cartridges cost $120!

depends on the paper quality as well..

my canon cost me less than $150 and all 4 cartridges costs only $18x4=$72.

only?? that's half the cost of the printer, bro! To make it worth it, I alternatively buy cartridge and printer ;p

got a question...if i'm using a canon printer, can i buy photo paper from other makers besides canon own brand??
eg. epson....

Can.. but must make sure its compatible for the printer. I'm using Ilford photo papers on my canon pixma printer. The quality is quite good.

which model?

since i sold the brands mentioned before here is my observation.

Epson, not much on reliability but have speed and original inks damn cheap. Nice photo printing.

Brother, very very hard to spoil but speed is slow. Value for money since include card reader and useful though slow photo printing. ink quite affordable but does self cleaning whenever power on.

HP, most buy for the branding but once the inks finish a lot will start looking for 3rd party inks which could jam the printers. Cheaper to buy new printer then new set of ink for mid range.

Canon, excellent photo printing and speed with affordable ink but warranty not as long as Epson or Brother unless pay for extend warranty.

Pls la, epson warranty 15 mth to door only.. canon 27 month ON SITE servicing lo, do u research b4 u anyhow pom.. PLS THX

just bought a canon at best denki roadshow...PIXMA IP4760 inkjet photo-printer...

Which Epson printer did you owned? I thought Epson ink cartridges are much cheaper than Canon, I saw them selling about 10$ per cartridge...

But it does seems like Epson ink cartridges are a bit too complicated, meaning too many different models for different printers. 73N, 81N, 82N, 85, 91N, 103... i can hardly locate my C-series printer cartridges nowadays...

Will it be a problem if you cannot find, say, one of the 6 cartridges for their photo printers? The Durabrite have 4 colors, so i would assume it will be easier to locate them.

any comments on the All-in-one printer from canon model mx876?

thinking of using it to print 4R pics occassionally.
