I am not sure of the package, this is what i was offered. I saw the pricing on amazon as well.

http://www.amazon.com/Canon-VIXIA-M...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1232041428&sr=1-1

I think if its really costing 2200 SGD in SG, since i am here, i will be silly not to buy it.

Cheers

Buy it in the US. Buying it here in Singapore means getting scr*wed big time by Canon Singapore. All the so-called "free gifts" are not worth the premium you pay.

One more thing... if you want to use Borderlinx, they have a US$5 off shipping if you use the code '66788', which can only be used once, and valid till April. :)

Bro...just wanted to thank you for mentioning this code "66788". I saved US$5....Gong Xi Fa Ca

Sorry for digressing, anyone have tried out a Sony SR12? I can get it about the same price as a Vixia after mailed in rebate as i will still be in US for a while. Seems specifications quite good.

What are the risks? Do mean damage to the unit caused by poor handling?

I understand that this is due to our 50Hz voltage. But if I use a PAL cam and go to Japan or US, would I still get a flickering effect, because they are using the 60Hz voltage?

Yes there will be some flickering. How much depends on the type of lighting, sometimes you just see a slight shimmering effect, other times you can get mad flashing, or anything in between.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but can someone explain the Hz thing? I tried to google it but am just confused by all the technical jargon. Do you mean that since the camcorder is made for 60 Hz, but our lights are at 50 Hz, you'll get the flickering?

Anyone? I'm quite curious as amazon is selling at 699 USD but the shops like harvey normal and courts is selling at $2599!

Should I get from amazon? What kind of stuff do I need to look at?

SR12 is hardisk based so basically you would be comparing with Canon HG21.

the way i figure it, HF100 has no built in memory so one less thing that will spoil. I am guessing the Canon may be milking it for all its worth or the original SRP of the camcorders was so high that even at current prices, the turnover is still quite decent.

Its the price they get from Canon SG.

Apparently there is a significant price difference between NTSC and PAL version. SG one is PAL version.

But the price difference may not be justified in practicality.. so maybe it just marketing thing..

So if i were to plug in the copy I buy from Amazon, i will not be able to see on a PAL TV? Or can I convert using my laptop to a PAL version?

How would the HF11 compare to the HV30 in terms of video quality, especially in low light?

Most TV nowadays are multi-system, so whether the camcorder is NTSC or PAL should makes no practical differences. That's why I mentioned.. its difficult to justify paying the price differences..

Sorry, but no comparison there. Just a brief mention on HF10
The info is all there just that need to draw your own conclusions as well as read the various comments posted.

the HF11 has 32GB internal memory and 24Mbps bitrate while the HF10 has a maximum bitrate of 17Mbps and 16GB internal memory. Both are using 1/3.2 sensors so low light performance is around the same.

And so with respect, the conclusion also applies to the HF11 as well but since you couldnt make the connection between the HF10 and HF11..are you sure you know what you are looking for?

For those who expressed fear in getting the camcorder from Amazon, let ,e say that I had owned the Canon HF100 for almost 1 year. I paid USD 650 then and had used it many times since. I had no problems viewing the videos from PC or my plasma TV. I do not see any flickering of lights as mentioned by someone in this thread. The only difference is that the amazon one is a NTSC model and comes only with US warranty.

Quoted from your link:
"It will be interesting to see what effects the new processing and slightly boosted data rate will have on image quality, and we’ll let you know as soon as we get our hands on an HF10"

"This might be a tight race, but we’ll keep you posted. "

So with equal respect, how can we draw a comparison between the HF10/HF11and the HV30 when they have not even reviewed the HF10 yet?..Are you reading something I am not?
