hello!!

a new user towards canon as ive been a nikon user all these while. but nikon has been failing me in terms of their colour + specs. so decided that it is time to 'upgrade' to a prosumer. since dslr is a lil too bulky esp for overseas trips yet i dnt want to comprimise with poor quality.

been reading all the past threads abt g10, generally, i do love it. other than the noise level being mentioned in some post, what is your other 'complains' about it?

as my needs for a cam is to be able to function under low lighting, im not quite a flash fan, as it might turn out too harsh for some. able to take objects at a moving speed well. not too long for the lag time in between images taken with flash. takes photos of children (think even faster moving objects, haha). not sure if g10 furfill these requirements.

and what is the best priced offered recently, since its aft the IT fair and where can i get it? what are the accessories given?

thanks sooo much! all +ve or -ve comments abt the cam is good for me. id love to hear them all. (:

You may try to call up the few shops to ask
AP-Funan - usually for the prosumer cam their price is good.
TK- Also prosumer cam their price is good
MS - AMK, a bit far unless you stay nearby
Parisilk Holand V, also call them ask price 1st, or if you stay at west can just go

google, all the shop location is on website.

Don't buy from IT fair, never got good deal.
For low light, you may want to read up Panasonic LX3 too

Hi all,

I am a new owner of G10 and have been playing with it for some time. I was trying to create the bokeh effect with it but to no avail. I read up online and had tried the AV mode with f2.8 but yet still get very sharp background. I also tried zooming to the max but also failed to get anything near there. As I am a noob in photography, appreciate any advice from you.
Thanks!

G10 has a pretty small sensor size, so the effective focal length is very short. In general, DOF is very wide at short focal length, for example, a 16mm lens on DSLR has a much wider DOF then 400mm lens, both at f2.8. Correspondingly, if you look at your G10, your lens focal length is actually 6.1mm to 30.5mm, which is both very short focal length. Secondly, the small sensor size also make the bokeh effect much less pronounce. Try that with a 30mm lens at f2.8 on a DSLR, you will see a huge difference on bokeh. Now crop that into the frame to simulate the small sensor size, the bokeh effect is much reduced.

i dnt hv a G10, but to get bokeh effect on my 570... i use maro mode on av... it works for me most of the time... but dnt expect creamy bokeh... just some blurr back ground...

had fun playing around with my new G10 this couple of weeks. as i am new to photography, i am still getting used to the manual settings ie. to get the right aperture & shutter speed & ISO settings.

what accessories can G10 add on with the adapter? can we add on lens with longer focal length?

I noticed G10 bokeh of OOF light point sources isn't as smooth as I'd like them to be. Here's an example. I think it was taken at f/4.5 but it's similar at f/2.8. Notice the dark wriggly lines and dots in the OOF light sources ? I think those are caused by some diffraction effect ? :dunno:

Compare that with a DSLR 50mm shot at f/1.8. It's of a different aperture hence larger circle but observe the aesthetic quality of a DSLR bokeh.

nice comparo ;)

I just went to Sim Lim and Funan. They quoted me $770 nett for G10. Inclusive of 8 gb card, lens cap, batt and charger, mini tripod, canon bag and cleaning kit.

Anyone else knows anywhere with better price currently? Do you think the price will drop significantly in Dec? How fast will canon's price drop?

simlim & funan?! worst. hahaha. u got go consumers corner? mostly chopper shops..always quote cheap..then they say nvr include 7% gst..must buy this buy that always got hidden costs one..later they add2..:D
When G10 was release Canon made a statement sounding like g10 is the last of the G series model. same statement made during G6 release. take another two years then they suprise all with another G series. that means you wait long2:bsmilie: price wont drop that fast le..
G10 less than a year in market:cool:

for PNS this price region, is G10 sensor the biggest at 1/1.7"...

No..$770 is after GST. Plus all those accessories. Before GST is $720.

Hello! new G10 user here! :)

my photos looks really good and vibrant on the camera's LCD screen, but when viewed on the computer, the colors seems really dead and flat. Is it my settings or is it an inherent G10 prob? Anyone else having this prob?

I know that i need alot more practice, I cant help but feel a little disappointed. any help appreciated! :)

Photos tend to look sharp & vibrant on the G10 LCD. This is expected and it's not a problem on the part of G10. Photos when compressed to be displayed on a small screen tend to look that way I guess. You can perform some simple post processing on your photos to match the look of the LCD (if you wish).

Although G10 doesnt have fast lens like previously G1,G2,g3,G5, G6 which i own.

But i can say picture quality wise it superb.~ Very low noise, and very good camera for panning due to the IS. Anyone can take excellent panning shots effortlessly with this camera.

Video no HD but VGA H.264 codec is very sharp, detailed and clear.

Buildwise is as good as my Sony F828 and Olympus C8080.

No regreats getting. 14.7mp is good enought for anything... Cameras which 4mp and above are aready sufficient for everyday's photos.

I guess G10 is the last Gseries, since G11 sounds werid

Would consider getting a SX1 for my collection since I am tempered by its 20X Zoommm~~~

would like to find out if anybody bought adaptors for the g10. if u got the canon one or others, and how it is.
Am thinking of getting for filters (gnd, cpl) and macro lens

thx, all advice appreciated.

I bought a emolux 52mm adapter and uv filter for my g10. My thought is that not to buy..unless you want it to look like a "dslr" or to prevent yr lens from the dust. I got this adapter and filter bcoz my g10 is 2nd hand and the previous owner wants to sell it altogether.

Or unless you want to buy the TC-DC58D teleconverter to increase the zoom range.

where can i get the teleconverters? it can be used to increase the zoom range?
