Canon G10

Hi G10 users.

For those who have not heard, Canon has announced the following update/fix.

Firmware v 1.0.2.0 update
http://web.canon.jp/imaging/dcp/firm-e/psg10/index.html

Products whose fifth digit from the left is 0 or 1 are affected.
****0*****
****1*****

http://www.dpreview.com/news/0904/09042802canonservicenoticeg10.asp

Serial numbers with the following 4th and 5th digits can be sent to Canon for free repairs.
***50*****
***51*****
***52*****
***53*****
***80*****
***81*****
***82*****
***83*****

My (personal) G10 has the serial number ***81*****, and is included in both announcements.
I'm planning to send my unit in to CSC, and have them perform the firmware update while the fix is being implemented. The problem is, I cannot locate the Singapore Canon service center listing. Is there a need to call to make an appointment? Does anyone have their contact number/Email?

Does anyone else have a camera affected, and are you sending your in soon (even if you've not seen the problem)?

Thanks.

Yo Mumupower,

got it for 775, cash upfront, if not surcharges for credit card applies. Came with 8GB SDHC, screen protector and the standard Canon camera kit. Another good thing was that I did not have to go collect the kit from Harbourfront unlike some other shops.

I did call the shops and got some equotes of about 770 (most) - 790.

Some shops in Sim Lim put down others quite badly, and I wonder why they say such things. Made me not want to buy from them even more, especially from those young punk sales guys.

Hi HI Dotechnix,

Can i check how much you pay for your G10 and what the package comes with?

Thanks thanks..

Hi guys!

I am thinking of getting a G10 for somebody, it has almost all the features desired but numerous review and feedback about the noisy images even on low ISO is making me very uncomfortable buying it.

issit really dat bad? any G10 user here which is disappointed by the noisy.

don't trust those online G10 photos, maybe all has been touched by noise ninja or something else :p

Thanks!!

I'm not sure about the reviews you've read, but those reviews I've read say the g10 is the best at low ISO already. Of course, it might not compare to a DSLR, but at Low ISO, it is among the best for a point and shoot.

At higher ISOs, you might want to look at the panasonic LX3. Then again, no p&S can compare to a DSLR at high ISO.

Also , if your friend is mainly printing at 4R, the pics are prob ok up to ISO 800

I own a G10 , but have not tried the LX3

hi guys,

any recommendations to buy adaptor and filter? And roughly how much, from which shop?
am also looking for a case, but seems to be limited to Canon's standard G10 leather case for $29.

Thanks man!

Hi Hi Sorry for the delay.

I got it from Holland V, the Parasilk, beside the Petite Province bakery....

Comes with the CAnon Kit.... and 8 G card...and the screen protector=)

You might want to check out the Lowepro Tasca 30 sleeve. Comes with a small carabina for attaching. Got it for 19 at Cathay Photos.

Hello,

I have called up Canon at Vivo City, they said they still have stock for G10 case selling at $29. We can also make a reservation for that also. Hope this information helps..

And thank you garyjelee, the sleeve looks good. I will make a trip down there too..very sleep looking.. =) I saw online that they do have nice colours also.

Cheers

Hi,

Do you have a picture of this $29 Canon leather case for the G10? I just want to be absolutely sure which case we're talking about here.

Thanks.

The guys at Cathay insisted that the Canon G10 will not fit into the Lowepro Tasca 30 cause of the thickness of the G10. I tried to fit it in too, but it wouldn't fit, and it's weird.

In the end I got a Lowepro Terraclime 30 from AP at Funan at $38. Quite steep, but fits and feels great. http://products.lowepro.com/product/Terraclime-30,2113.htm

http://www.pictureline.com/products/16116/Canon_PSC-5100_Deluxe_Leather_Case_(G10)/#

The one canon stocks looks like this.. The lowepro one looks good, and affordable. might just go get it if there're no other alternatives.

I have just bought myself a G10 too as a walkabout camera,
However don't seems to be able to get one camera case that would really fits the bill.
Doen't quite like the inner lining of the canon leather case... a bit worried if lint may easily comes off the lining.
Any suggestion from fellow owners? I would prefer it to be small and able to attach to waist belt. Thanks in advance.

Got it today at Parisilk HV at $765, nice friendly saleman me no regret going all the way down from AMK :D

By the way come with 8gb, kit bag included and a screen protector as good gesture

i just got mine ... pls all Senior .. dun bully me hor.

This is what the $29 G10 'Singapore version' case looks like. 'Singapore version' because according to the VivoCity staffs, Canon subsidiaries in each country have their own supplier and designer. IMO I like the Japanese version - looked very retro chic. YMMV.
