Canon G10

ok, don't want to wait till SITEX

anyway, no response from those on the list as well

will be getting this on my own :D

compared against other P&S camera, G10 feels right, i suppose moving from IXUS from 3.2 to5 to 14.7 = familiarity with program etc

may add RD2000 to my shopping list later

Hi, I've just bought the G10 at cathay marina square for $780 inclusive gst by cash, free 8Gb card. With the receipt, can exchange $20 marina square voucher + elmo bag + lucky draw. Go back to cathay with the $20 voucher to exchange back $20 cash.

So effective price is $760!

G10 in Australia don't come with free 8GB SDHC card, anyone how much does the 8GB card cost?

also say if buy G10 in downtown Melbourne, how does one claim the 10% tax rebate? at the airport?

would it be easier and cheaper to buy inside Australia airport?

thanks

any recommended cheapo camera case for the G10? ;p

hi all,

i just went to peninsular to check out the camera shop, but i am surprised that at 7pm, its all closed already.

any one of you checked out peninsular already?

i heard reviews and checked out LORD's Camera at far east few days ago.
they are selling at $776.

else the marina square sounds like the best deal till now.

Today is Sunday, think you better check their operating hours for that branch.

haha. i thought retail shops usually open till 9.

dw8888 gave a clue that it is in peninsular and selling for $720 so i decided to check it out.
not knowing the name of the shop, i could not call to check the price or operating hours.

but there are certainly a lot of camera shops there. will probably check it out again.

else the marina square cathay deal looks good.
any others got new findings?

I had bought a Lowepro Sliplock Pouch ($15) but it was a little too tight and the drawstring hood obstructs the camera going in and out, even peeling my screen protector off. The front flap was also too short and the camera is not secure.

Next candidate was a Bagman http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?p=4545626, cheaper than the Lowepro but fits perfectly. The fabric is better, front flap more secure and also has a plastic buckle if needed. The carrying strap can be easily stowed under the lower flap if you want to use a belt instead.

If you want a dedicated made-for G10 camera case that fits snugly, there is the PSC 5100 camera case by Canon. I called the Canon showroom about this case and they mentioned it goes for ~$29. They couldn't verify the model number of the case - they just mentioned there is a dedicated case for G10 by Canon and it goes for ~S$29. Since there's only 1 case currently dedicated for G10, I guess they are referring to PSC-5100 that I mentioned.

leather cases are nicer but more susceptible to fungal growth.

Thanks for the input, I've just bought the Lowepro Apex 60 AW for $25 from MS color. It seems to be designed just for the G10.
http://products.lowepro.com/product/Apex-60-AW,1907,26.htm

So my total expenditure is:
G10 + 8gb card $760
LCD protector $10
Lowepro Apex 60AW case $25

Total = $795.

you got a good deal on the bag for $25, looks likea very good fit :)

from cathay photo @marina square?

good deal at sitex?

anyone check it out?

i'm not sure how Melbourne Airport works but i am assuming from Sydney airport, you can claim your tax back from some tax refund counter after you clear the immigrations. and it is 11% btw. :)

8gb is like.. 20-30 maybe?

the Duty Free at airport.. kind of subjective... however, if you know where to look, there are places cheaper than the airport's duty free even before the tax rebate ;)

heard sitex deals are nothing much.

i went sim lim yesterday
the prices are rather ok even before bargain.

merdeka is selling at 715 + gst = 765.05 (+ 8 gig card)
alan photo = 780 include gst (+8 gig card)

but the best price of all came from the shop that i heard most bad reviews.
SOONG BROTHERS = $720 + gst = 770.40 (+ 8 gig card, 1 spare 3rd party battery, screen protector)

screen protector i think can easily bargain from other shops. but the 3rd party battery sounds good to me.

so far the best deal is cathay from marina square where after the $20 rebate = $760 (+8 gig card)

to pay a price difference of 10.40 for a 3rd party G10 battery sounds good enough for me.
what do you all think?

** at level 2 sim lim, i found a shop selling G10 and still selling G9.
hey with the G10 up and selling well now, G9 should lose its glamour.
but i surely do not mind paying like $500 for a new G9. haha
BUT. the guy say that the price difference is only $30.
KAOZ. stick to G10 better.

my friend in AUZ is telling me about this too

http://www.penta.com.au/index1.php?cid=37&categoryname=Camera
do a search on G10. the words are too small to slowly search.

G10 selling for 603 auz including tax of 11%. that is if u leave within 30 days u bought the camera.
lets do some sums.
AUZ 536.67 + 11% GST = AUZ603
and by http://finance.yahoo.com/currency/convert?from=SGD&to=AUD&amt=1
SGD$1 = AUZ 1.01
means in singapore dollars after VAT refund the thing cost ........

S$531.36 with australian warranty. i think no international warranty.
at the airport they can show receipt to the counter and get back the refund.

it used to be cheaper few weeks ago. when the sing dollar was stronger to auz dollar then now.

singapore is no longer the place for cheapest electronics.
