Canon G10

Not Sure I should let your know this. 2 weeks ago I check the shop in the peninsula Plaza. He quoted me S$720. I check with him is it a local set and he say yes. I only wanted to buy one set. and I can get this price.Surprise me when I see what your hunting for.

any idea what is the shop name? if its $720nett then its a very good price and we can all go there to nego for slightly better price. how ever if must +GST then it would be around $770. i suspect its without GST.

If anyone is interested, G10 is available at $750 nett w/4Gig SD card. Canon M'sia warranty.

i believe the 8gb is a class 4 high speed sdhc toshiba that come with g10....;)

Did anyone know the Data Transfer Speed, DTS, for g10 sdhc slot?

This is the reply from Canon:

Greeting from Canon Singapore.

According to product specification of PowerShot G10, it support SD(maximum
2GB) and SHDC memory card(4GB, 8GB, 16GB & 32GB in current IT market).
In fact, SDHC Class 2 is already sufficient for PowerShot G10 camera usage.
Class 4 & 6 more delicated for digital flash memory camcorder.
Class 4 & 6 can be use with PowerShot G10, just it will not fully utilized
the speed of the memory card.

Hope the information help for you.

Thank you for purchasing our Canon product & may you have a pleasant day.

one thing i learnt from the email.. their english is quite... u know wat im saying? =/

so when do u guys wanna get the G10?

Usable is a subjective description, don't take their word for granted. For me, anything above ISO400 in small sensor cameras can hardly be classified as usable.

I had one LX3 previously, and became quite unhappy with it, wouldn't recommend it to any serious RAW users. For jpeg, if you ignore the white balance inaccuracy, it's a fine camera.

hmmm the G10 is enticing and the review at http://www.digitalcamerareview.com/default.asp?newsID=3775&review=canon+powershot+g10 seems to suggest useable iso1600, but as it is, its a bulky and subjectively unattractive looking camera...ha Panasonic Lx3 anyone?:bsmilie:

Go try in Vivocity the new G10 and you will dismayed to find that the ISO performance is not as good as most have expected.

They allow to take pictures and scrutinize on computers over there?

I handled both the G10 and LX3 and in my opinion G10 beats the LX3 hands down in terms of built-quality, ergonomics & intuitive controls by a far far margin. G10 also feels much better in my hands. I can't comment on pic quality just by looking at the LCD - for that you can refer to the various online reviews but they are pretty much equal. I've set on getting the G10 - hopefully some special price offer comes along. Is the mass order coming along :dunno:

yeah no question bout it, the G10 has better handling and ergonomics, it also has a reassuring weight to it, but at its size, its like a DSLR with a compact sensor in it...and because of its size am tempted to compare it to a Olympus E420 which has DSLR quality pics...

dun get me wrong,i would still like to have a G10 as a sidearm, but it does make me ponder whether the money can be better spent on a better set of glass/a proper "compact" compact camera/a proper "compact" DSLR...

I had the same consideration as well. Since the price point encroaches into entry-level DSLRs, it does make me wonder if getting a small DSLR like the Olympus E420 makes better sense. Problem is E420 may be slim but coupled with a lens, it's no longer 'small'. It's the DSLR lens that makes the bulk of the size. I considered getting an Olympus pancake 25mm f/2.8 (50mm ff equiv.) to go along with the E420 to maintain overall slimness, but I needed something wider at least to 28mm. If Olympus makes a slim pancake 14mm (28mm ff equiv.), then E420 makes sense to me. Else, G10 meets my need for a slim, pocketable, 'walkabout' fun camera. If I want better noise-control, lens flexibility, and faster response, I have a DSLR for that. For a person getting G10 as his main and only camera, then yes, it's probably a predicament to decide between G10 and some entry level DSLR.

G10 is not that large actually, it's higher than LX3, with the same width, but thinner (LX3 had a lens barrel)
Once I compared G9 with e420+25/2.8, the later was much thicker...
you can see a photo here, G1 is rather small when compared to a normal dslr, but still much larger compared to G10

But G10's size is already not pocket friendly...maybe you endup carry a small bag...then there's not much difference as carrying a slim slr like E420...

$720 seem too good to be true. My friend ever went to Peninsula and a shop quoted her $980 for a 450D kit where shop like cathay, john or AP quoted her $1100+ last week and when she want to purchase they tell her Olympus E420 is better and so on and so on but she insisted on the 450D they refuse to sell her.

Some of these shop alway quote a price which no other shop can match then when you go back, you become the "carrot". :bsmilie: But if the deal is true, buy and walk out. Do not get any other accessories/batteries/filter as these will be sold at inflated price to cover the cost of the camera. :)

Should anyone be interested, the G10 is available as low as AU$609 with camera case and lens tissue. If you have someone coming back to Singapore, you can even claim the tax of 10%! Fyi, the RRP for the G10 is AU$749 in Australia, but in Singapore its S$869. Exchange rate now is almost dollar for dollar. Asked Canon about the difference in RRP but no response from them...

Let me know if anyone is getting it from Australia. I want to ride on for the order!! Thanks!

Hmmm the AUD has fell almost 25% against the SGD in the last 9 months. At point of launching the G10, the Aussie was trading against the SGD at around $1.2 which make the Aussie camera more expensive if you do the maths :o For the Aussie ppl, it doesn't make a difference to them but to us is cheaper ;p But people who had fixed deposit in AUD will feel a great pinch. FYI international warranty for Canon is 6 month and not one year.
