Canon G10

I'm using the opteka adapter... ordered from Amazon.com.

This one?

Could you please:
- Verify that the lens can fully extend and not hit an attached filter.
- Post a picture of the setup.

Thanks!

Hi, yes this is the one. I bought from Amazon.com.

Sorry, don't have any pics of the setup now, but it will not hit the attached macro lens that I used with. The adaptor comes in 2 part. If you attach the first part, u can shoot only wide angle at 28mm, you cannot zoom in.

If you attach both parts, u can shoot tele and macro, but not at wide angle. Hope this helps.

The following shot is taken at night at Lower Pierce Reservoir with the G10, Opteka +10 diopter macro lens, Raynox DCR250 +8 diopter macro adaptor, inbuilt flash, FEB -2/3, DIY diffuser, 1/60s, f/4.5, ISO100. Pretty happy with the performance of the G10.

Ok, i try to take a pic and post up some day.... ;p

to mount the raynox, u need an adaptor, and you can get either of these:

1) Canon LA-DC58K
http://www.amazon.com/Canon-Conversion-Adapter-Digital-Cameras/dp/B001G5ZTTK

2) Opteka
http://www.amazon.com/Opteka-Two-Pa...r_1_11?ie=UTF8&s=photo&qid=1240157893&sr=1-11

3) Lensmate
http://www.lensmateonline.com/newsite/G10.html

4) Dealextreme
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.19677

In short, if you need to mount either of the following, you need an adaptor:
1) Wide angle lens
2) Fisheye lens
3) Tele convertor
4) Macro lens
5) UV/CPL/ND Filters

hi,

would like to check whether S$689 for a G10 without any free gift is worth it?

Hi Pauche,

This sounds a bit strange.
Is there a combination available for the Opteka that will allow using all focal lengths/zoom settings on the G10. If all I want to do is attach a filter (e.g. Hoya 72mm HMC UV), and keep the adaptor on on the G10 all the time, the Lensmate claims to be able to do it, by using Part A and Part B together.

To add 72mm filters with no vignetting at any focal length requires:
g10AB.jpg

Part A - base section
Part B - 72mm filter holder
Part C - telephoto section

that is because Lens mate uses a 72mm filter holder.
the rest of the adaptors are 58mm.

thanks. guess i shall proceed to order the lensmate as well as a flipbac for my g10 :)

Is there no way to get these adaptors locally? Called Canon but all they say is that the orders have been placed but not arrived yet.

You can probably get Canon's, but I believe theirs is made of plastic.

I have no idea if Canon's can be used at all zoom settings (like the Lensmate) or it has restrictions.

...

don't think it's out yet. I'm waiting for it as well. There was a thread on it somewhere, but it looks good

Yes, it looks good.

Just called Canon Singapore, and was told that the Speedlite 270 may be out in Singapore in June this year, probably together with the EOS 500D :)

Wondering which unit would be a better choice to get : the Sunpack RD 2000 (@ $145) or the Speedlite (which I think may be cost more than the Sunpack) Any suggestions?

canon's lens adaptor cannot be used for the wide angle, cos it's 58mm.

lensmate's part A and B can be used for all zoom settings, but not for adding on a tele conver nor a macro convertor. u still need a part C for the tele and/or macro convertor.

hope this clarifies.

Sunpak:
- Guide number 20
- No high speed sync, max 1/250s
- Wide angle coverage at 24mm (35mm equiv)
- Compact size and weight
- Most likely cheaper

Speedlite 270:
- Guide number 27
- Has high speed sync
- Not as wide at 28mm (35mm equiv)
- Bulky and heavier
- Definately more expensive

Thanks for the comparative specs ...
Will wait to see the actual price of the Speedlite before final decision

Incidentally ... is the difference of 7 for the Guide number significant?
