Hi

The warranty is 2 years on top of the original warranty ?
Any1 signed up for the canon extended warranty ?

Is it worth it ?

Still wondering should I or not.

:dunno:

before u make the extension decision, u gota ask urself one important question.

"How long do u think u will be using this camera u just bought?"

If u are the kind of person that is similar to me i.e. those kind that change cameras every half a year just to have a taste of new technology, then dun splurge on the warranty.

In fact in the clubsnap Buy and sell, there is already some ppl that bought their 350d (with canon extended warranty) & D50, D70 (with harvey norman extended warranty) and less than one yr they are selling it away!

Thats because at the time they bought their gear, they believed it is their most precious thing and must die die protect it nicely, but they did not factor in their own desire to try out upcoming new technologies..and they gota sell away their camera at a even higher loss than when its without the warranty..

The "ONLY" time i will buy the extended warranty is if i buy the really really high end stuff liek the 1dsmkII or D2x, by then new replacements for this top end model only come out once every perhaps >3 yrs, this i believe will be more worthwhile as there is no temptation to upgrade..

my 3 cents for u to consider

Thanks for sharing.

I'll think i go for the warranty.

My last digicam last me for 3 yrs. the 1 before that is about ~2 yrs.

:)

to me, the cost is simply not worth it.

the premium one has to pay for Extended warranty, compared to other sorts of insurance, is frankly daylight robbery.

in any event, to me, canon make pretty good products. its rare one hears of anything going wrong with their DSLRs here. and if anything is going to go wrong, it would normally happen in the 1st year (under your free warranty anyway).

so really, for you to make any gains out of extended warranty - you have to factor in what is the likelihood of someting going wrong in the 2nd or 3rd year and even if it does, will the cost of repairing likely exceed the cost of the extended warranty?

I paid premium for my Canon Powershot G3.
I was a happy user until it broke down on me 2.5 years later.

I will be getting the extended warranty for my next camera purchase. I will keep my gear till the day it breathes last. Though new technology has been introduced, there aren't many major key factor that helps improve your photo composition except yourself.

Exepcially for digital cameras, it's wise to buy the warranty as parts are unavailable after 5 years from launch, unlike the SLR days whereby repair from a 3rd party workshop would be cheaper than the original manufacturer at times.

warranty issue is separate from parts.. first, i dont think its correct that canon only stock parts for 5 years, much will depend on the model, sales and how fast model is discontinued.

secondly, warranty doesnt last 5 years in any event.

if parts become unavailable, then they will be unavailable regardless of whether you are under warranty or not.

ya..thats true.. in addition, i do heard of some good outcomes for those that purchased the extended warranty though.. if i remember correctly, a few of our clubsnappers had their camera spoilt, but the manufacturer dont have any spare parts to replace it, n they replaced it with a newer model..

I bought their extended warranty for my Ixus i zoom & Powershot S3. Don't usually change my camera often. In fact, Ixus i zoom is my second digicam & S3 is my third.

Felt it's rather worth it as I don't intend to change cameras now & then. My first Ixus V3 lasted me almost 3 years, until the CCD was dead.
