Canon EOS MArk III or Nikon D800

That said, I hardly doubt the d800 can nail the shots I want. Maybe a few times. Maybe slightly more than a few times. But never at the amount that canon's af system can provide for me.

It's amazing to me how one generation of camera can make such a huge change. We would not have said the same thing about Canon's AF system when comparing the D700 to the 5D2. Canon is AF king... for now.

Ot a bit ...

I give up shooting my kid photo .. they just cant stay still. End up shooting hd video all the while ... u be surprise video capture memories better sometimes.

Don't give up. I have four kids and use manual focusing (Leica) many times. Kids just cannot keep still. Sometimes I think AF is more a pain than anything else.

They may blow their cool now but years from now when the photos bring back such precious memories they'll be eternally grateful.

not need years lah. recently i took photo of strays when she is feeding, the strays are in front of her thus when i go near (about 15m) the dogs becomes full alert and reluctant to come near her. she was upset and asking me to go away but when i showed her the photos at night, she was so happy that the sweet moment of the dogs were capture and thanked me

Yes indeed! Good one!

Canon EOS MArk III or Nikon D800. Which should I get and which walk around lens should I go with it.
More for family use.
For family use.. to be honest.. both are overkill already. But if i need to buy and were in your position.. between those 2 you mention.. i will go with 5D3. D800 too much MP..no need.

Walk around lens? family? lens like 24-105 will be very good enough. Or if you have more to spare.. just get the 24-70.
Done. With this 1 camera body n lens. You are very good to go already. No more worries and pretty much future proof. :bsmilie:

oh since you are considering the 5d3 and d800.. why not consider the Sony A99 too. Its cheaper and equally good. ;)

A99, AF is fast not only in photo mode but also in video mode. video and photo are both important for shooting children in my opinion.

Mk III as i am a canon guy. And match it with 24-70f2.8 mkII

Honestly either will be more than sufficient

This question is like asking iPhone or Samsung ...

If i'm shooting studio and portraits and landscape, i'd go with the D800.

but if i needed low-light capabilities, i'd go for the 5D3

BUT.

but. if i'm headed to somewhere where i'll be shorter than the crowd, i'd use the A99

:bsmilie:

Thanks to ALL.
Was thinking of upgrading my camera, presently using Canon 60D + 17-55 F2.8 + 50mm F1.4 + 70-200mm
As some told me Nikon have more detail, so was thinking which to upgrade.
As for buget will set 10K for it.
Just upgrade my nas, now I have 8 x 4Tb =32Tb of space to save my photo. So for storage is no problem.
As for editing using SSD so still ok.
My 2 kids are now 3yrs and 9mths. Some of the photo I took look ok on the camera, but when I view on the com it abit blurr

The usual question to ask when thinking of upgrading...What is it that your current setup is limiting you?

Anyway, view on camera ok because the camera screen is only 3" as compared to your computer screen which is easily 5-8 times larger. Most of the focusing errors cannot be seen clearly on the camera lcd unless viewed on the computer.

Reasons for blur shot:
- low shutter speed and handshake
- movement blur (due to low shutter speed again)
- DOF, your subject fell out of your depth of field. Can easily happen when you zoom in max at your widest aperture and your subject just happen to run towards you (or even move forward/backward).

Post a few sample shots and it will be probably clearer to tell what's wrong.

*Throwing money at user problems won't solve the original problem AND yet at the same time create cashflow problems*

Skystrike is right... it's all in the technique... rarely is it the camera's fault.

A person with good technique would be able to shoot children without blur even with an old Canon 350D. I would be the first to admit that my technique is not optimal... I have several blurred photos to prove it... but I'm learning.

Of course, a higher spec'd camera can help, but if the technique is not up to par, then even the most expensive camera in the world will still produce blurred photos.

your 60D is more than enough for family shot. and 17-55 is one of the fasstest AF in canon lens.

Not good enough for you?

You should practice and train on your techniques on focusing and timing. Its free! you don't need to spend $10K.

buying the best AF system is a 'shortcut' and 'lazy' way to improve your photo. if you like it, good for you. your money yr life:)

1DX and 24-70 f/2.8L II.

not necessary to upgrade. your existing camera is good enough. :) blur photos is not because of your camera. it's your technique issue.

This is already a very good setup !
If need to spend some $, go csc pay $60 to calibrate your 17-55 lens with your body to "sharpen" your images. If Still not sharp, then go FF and L lens lor... 5dmk3 or 6D with 24-70 ii will be a good sharp combo ...
