Canon EOS MArk III or Nikon D800

Hahahaah. The sarcasm in this thread just flies right over some heads. :D

Canon of course. Kids running around is already a PITA to focus. D800 wont even get u the shot.

5d3's zone AF rocks.

Wanna challenge me to capture moments of your Olympic quality kids? You with a Canon 5D Mark III and your favorite lens, me with a Nikon D3200 / Pentax Kx5 / Olympus OM-D with their respective kit lenses? You want to use a Canon 1Dx also can. ;-)

stay on topic,

anyone try to start a brand war, will soon become history.

Get the 5D3 together with a 40/2.8 pancake, it's all I would need for family photos.

Lol this thread just makes me laugh.

I realise that there might be a difference between what I call a good shot, and what you guys call a good shot. I shoot kids like I shoot wedding or events, which means anything that fails to capture that exact moment where emotions running high is considered a failure. There's a 1 to 1.5s window to frame the shot, focus, and capture the laughter or other emotions. There's no need to track them. I take about 100 of such candids in a 3 hour wedding dinner or other events.

That said, I hardly doubt the d800 can nail the shots I want. Maybe a few times. Maybe slightly more than a few times. But never at the amount that canon's af system can provide for me.

Canon EOS MArk III or Nikon D800. Which should I get and which walk around lens should I go with it.
More for family use.

1D C .

capture family memories in 4k resolution. you won't miss a single pixel of memories anymore.

Family shots as in family portraits?
Pentax 645D
Also fends off Uncle Bob who may try to one up you with whatsoever 135mm format DSLR.

I understand that sometimes we think the family deserves the best, but then what about best skill (within personal limits of course)?

MHO, get any camera of your choice and budget, but more importantly, learn how to use it better.
Also think over the issue of portability.

just spend $2 instead of $3500 to buy ice cream for your kids and ask them stop running and pose for you. social skill is invaluable to photographer.

film in 4k!

I will die carrying that whole day for shopping trip and looking after my kids ...

I am using rx100 btw for capturing family video and photo. Not perfect but it a balance btw quality and size.

recently i saw a dad carrying 1DX with 70-200mm f2.8L walking around in "extreme coolness" at sentosa..... with 2 young kids and mom scrambling about chasing after the kids.

if my i do that to my fiancee in the future, she will probably take my cam and lens and smash it right to the ground. just thinking of that makes me cringe.

carry big lens and camera is very uncool, geeky. at least to me and those non-photographers i know

Well .. I saw tonn of this scenario u mention ... if the wife think it s ok .. by all mean let the dad enjoy his passion.

(I wonder how long can the wife endure before she blew her cool .... mine exploded the 2nd time I went out with dslr ... got a BIG earful 'responsibility lesson' from her ..)

But I think for a special outing ... its ok to bring dslr once a while ...

Seem we ot quit a lot from the topic.

let's bring back the topic then.

i'd recommend 5D3. simply because own it and i think it rocks.

They may blow their cool now but years from now when the photos bring back such precious memories they'll be eternally grateful.
