Canon EOS 650D. LP-E8 Battery Ori or 3rd Party?

Highly recommend the canon OEM battery. My previous 5D MKII battery was still 2 bar even I put in cabinet for 2 months. The retaining capability is great

Ok.. i personally went down to Red Dot Photo @ Paya Lebar... the guys there very nice... sad they don't have what i requested the Hoya 49mm CPL-PL filter.... (Rare). Anyway after i show them the defect battery, they confirmed and give me a new one. I also get a Chromage 49mm UV Filter for my Nex and leave the store.

And which company is the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) of Canon batteries? Canon obviously isn't ...

sorry.. what i mean is Canon original battery. Used phottix batteries before.. although its cheaper, original battery will worth its value in long run.

Stay away from 3rd party batteries - my friends Nikon D80 shorted out - a real case of penny wise pound foolish. I have never trusted 3rd party batteries - they may work well for some but why chance it. Buy originals from proper camera shops like MS Color, SLR Revo, Cathay, John 3:16 etc.

In my case, 400D battery was out of production so no choice.

Just got a 3rd party as spare yesterday from TK, divipower-$28. Have not try out yet though.

I have used several systems like NiKon, Canon, Sony etc. For NIkon I never buy 3rd party as the original is quite reasonably priced so I skip the 3rd party ones. Sony 3rd party ones I got from BKK is very good is at least on par with the original.

As for Canon, I tried many 3rd party batt and while it is not obvious during photo taking - you will find that the 3rd paty will go flat quickly in video mode. This is evident in my case for various Canon models I use.

Frankly, the 3rd paty are one thrid/forth of the price of the originals BUT you can expect to get the equivalent in perfromance. In my opinion, 3rd party are good for additional backup but I won't rely on them for serious work or while travelling.
