I remember you posted this thread no so long ago, http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/cano...ade-my-canon-gear-commerical-photography.html
If you plan to shoot for money, here is thread with very useful information on business perspective.

if just for hobby, so long you can afford it, anything goes.

I may be blunt but i have to ask.
someone shooting for money yet can't decide which camera to get?
if i were shooting for money,my answer is very clear cut.

This is what I thought of, get 6d and put more money on better glass. Can you share with me your experience with 24-70 f2.8L as
I know that it does not have IS.

The rule should always be to spend on better glass than camera body. That said, if autofocus performance is critical to you (e.g. sports) and being able to have a backup card is important (especially for events), then go for the 5D Mark III. For all your other needs listed above, 6D is good enough.

IS helps with camera shakiness but not motion blur (freezing motion). It's always better to spend the money on a faster aperture lens. If you need IS, go for the Tamron as suggested by denniskee. Otherwise, 24-70mm f2.8 L is a good bread-and-butter lens for your events.

I am also in this dilemma recently as I am shopping for a FF body.

Coming from manual film camera decades ago, the 6D AF to me is already considered god send. I have decided I should get the 6D instead. It is almost half the price of 5Dmk3 minus some bells and whistles. For sports I have 7D to back it up.

But if you are shooting for money, 5Dmk3 should give you a better confidence as well as 'respect' from your customers.

6D's ISO performance is actually better than 5d3 slightly IIRC. Just a tiny bit better on charts and numbers.

It focuses better in low light than 5d3, but you are stuck to the middle.

Like others said, if you don't need the AF and backup system of 5d3, 6D is better is almost every other way. Except for the LCD also. lol.

TS

If you shoot for money, buy both. You'll need a back-up camera body!

Personally, if I could afford it (and I sure as heck can't), I would buy the 5DmK3, just because I want more focus points. I have 9 focus points now and it is not nearly enough for how I shoot.

I had the same dilemma not so long ago and I've pretty much decided to get the 6D 24-105 kit within the next one week.
Reason being it fits better to my needs by being lighter and in terms of features. I don't really need the additional bells & whistles of the 5D Mk3.
Meanwhile, I eagerly anticipate Sigma's rumored 24-70 f/2.0 lens and agonized over whether to get the 16-35 Mk2 or to hold on for the mythical Canon 12-24/16-40 replacement. :bsmilie:

Yes, there are many of us waiting for the mythical Canon 12-24 mm super wide angle lens.

I would say..

in any case..if the differences in money is non issue.. Just get the 5D3 and move on. Else the 6D.
5Dm3 is just better but dont worry..that does not mean 6D is far worst or not as compared. Cant go wrong with any in most cases..or at least for TS. :)

Thanks everyone for your comments, probably I will go for 5D mark iii.

5D Mark III is using a slower SD card interface built in thus you will not maximise the highest speed of a Sandisk extreme Pro even if you spend big cost for it. If you want to enjoy the highest speed shooting on a 5D III, get a fast speed CF card. The CF card speed is alot better than the SD card not just because CF card is faster, but the structural limitation of the 5DIII when use SD. You can read up more on the internet.

Is CF cards is faster than SD cards?

Personally I will advice getting the 6D, save the money for the lenses... If you are considering FF camera, I hope that you will consider 1DX as well... Price for all about 2.4k++ for 6D then 5D3 4k++ and then 1DX for 7.1k++ (may not be accurate)... Getting the 5D3 will have the af of 1DX but the image quality and the fps is so much different... Getting the 6D and the 5D3, advantage is cheaper, the centre point is definitely better... Wifi and GPS... Personally I like the wifi which I can immediately send picture to my phone and send to friends... 6D when put together with a battery grip, you can still use the 8 way direction to change the af as it is located at the bottom when shooting portrait... Whereas 5D3 the joystick is on the top of the camera, if taking picture with a battery grip in portrait you may have a problem when trying to change the af point.. 5D3 advantage definitely is the different af, the earphone jack... One problem I face with the 6D is that if I use my left eye to take a picture, my nose will hit the live view mode button and it will activate it, secondly if focus is on the corners then maybe you can't reach it due to the lack of af points... 5D3 is between 6D and 1Dx, personally I will go for either the 1Dx if not constraint by the cost factor, else I will get 6D... 5D3 is in the middle so it will still lack some of the things in 1Dx and will have a bit more compare with 6D

Is CF cards is faster than SD cards?

Take out your CF card and SD card.

Look at the number of contact pins on CF card and compare to the number of contact point conductors on the back of the SD card.

Whether faster depends also on the inherent speed class of the cards.

Thanks everyone for your input, after trying both sets at Canon showroom today I have decided to go with 5D Mark iii.
Now I'm having doubts about two lens to go with the 5D which is the Canon EF24-105mm f/4L IS USM & EF24-70mm f/2.8L II USM.
Both lens are L lens but EF24-105mm f/4L have IS while EF24-70mm f/2.8L II does not have IS.
I only fear that I may not have steady hands to use the EF24-70mm f/2.8L II so anyone have advice for this?

Train and familiarize myself first before moving to 5D mark iii.

I fear you are wasting your money like this. go for mk3 straight away since it is your intention. I got familiar with 'FF composition' (so to speak) in only few hours after upgrading from a crop....

Reason is that all these while I been using crop body so I'm going to learn how to use a FF body as the composition
will no doubt be different.

The easy solution is to consider the Tamron 24-70 f/2.8 VC.

Vibration Control (VC) is equivalent to Canon's IS technology. Personally I use the Canon 24-105 f/4 IS because I like the focal range better but a lot of people have reacted very favourably towards the Tamron. Here is a link to another ClubSnap thread which has been very active in discussing the merits of the new lens from Tamron. There are also several sample photos to view:

Thanks, looks good but perhaps I will just go for the Canon EF24-105mm f/4L IS. :)

That's a good choice, considering the price is now low and they are still great equipment(despite new models being launched)

How about 24-70 F2.8 Mk1 instead? Mk2 is quite expensive as compare to Mk1. Mk1 still a very good lens.
