not sure how long it'll stay that way.. best is move around or wait for PC shows coming in march if i'm not wrong..
heh.. i just called Canon Singapore service centre, and spoke to a staff (dang, forgot to get his name)..
The Canon EOS 450D shutter count "threshold" at Canon Singapore (CS) = 50,000 shots. If the shutter dies below 50,000 shots, and still under warranty, CS will replace it for free. If above 50,000 shots, and still under warranty, CS will replace it for ~S$50 (parts cost). If its not under warranty anymore, parts cost (~S$50) AND service cost will be charged.
CS Extended Warranty costs S$150 (within 14 days of camera purchase, S$180 after that minimum of 1 month before expiry) for 2 additional years for the EOS 450D (amount varies for different models).
I think I'll wait until 1mth before expiry before I decide to extend mine, just in case I suddenly got more money decide to upgrade.
Another thing to note from the CS Warranty Terms and Conditions, the warranty only applies to the ORIGINAL PURCHASER, and is NOT TRANSFERABLE. (See point number 3 of
http://www.canon.com.sg/section/customercare/warranty/terms.html) "
The Limited Warranty is valid only for the original purchaser (“Purchaser”
of the Equipment and is not transferable."
Just an important tip for those who are buying 2nd hand bodies or lens which are still under warranty, get an authorisation letter from the seller, in addition to the original receipt and warranty card, so that you can produce it to CS. (See point number 6 of
http://www.canon.com.sg/section/customercare/warrantyplus_T&C.jsp) "
The customer named in the Confirmation and Original Warranty Card must be the same. Only such named customer may enforce the Extended Limited Warranty. If the customer is a party other than an individual, Canon may require a letter from the customer authorising the nominated individual representative to deal with all matters relating to or arising out of the Extended Limited Warranty (including collection of Relevant Equipment)."
Otherwise you might find that the warranty is not valid when you bring it down to Canon Singapore.
