I already started saving up for this baby...*drool* I will then sell off my 55-250 to make room for it...cannot wait for that day...dreaming of all the nature shots I will try out.

Actually is there a 3rd party alternative to this lens? (meaning budget)...400mm focal length with IS too?

bro, i have the same target too! im a nature shooter so am really looking forward to using this baby! right now only play with macro...

So cool...tried doing birding but the 250mm is just not enough in reach and sharpness. But I think I will find alot of uses when I do street too...right now use my 55-250mm for lots of street scene but with more reach I think I can really isolate individuals from afar.

If you have a 70-200mm, would you still keep it after getting 100-400mm? :)

Problem of range overlap.

Nope..I will sell it off. Looking at my shooting style, I usually use the 250mm when I telephoto so a 70-200 is below my needs but the 100-400mm will be just nice.

well right now i only own 2 lenses, an UWA and a 100mm macro. i dont really do street so didnt get the 55-250. when i do get the 100-400, its gonna be purely for nature and birds!

for me i'd go for either one or the other. i feel that a 70-200 doesnt have enuff reach so i'll stick with 100-400 for nature. the normal range can use a 24-105 to fill. all these are not f2.8 coz i dun really shoot indoor so dun need the speed. ultimately i think to buy lens must know gonna use for what...

70-200mm is meant for other usage though, not for birds. Gotta look into it before I invest in 100-400mm L.

IC Then IMO, the Tamron 17-55 is a good budget choice..I am using the Tamron too and found it to be much better than the kit lens and I am very happy with it. Really can't go very wrong for a lens without IS and till now I have not really missed the IS for this length.

However, for you I would say you should go for the 55-250mm lens to give you the reach you need as the 18-55 kit lens is as you said, sharp after some PP so it's good enough for now till you have budget to get both lenses.

Good luck with your choice :)

Conisdering that you missed some shots before, putting yourself in the same situation again and think it through. Would you want to miss those shots again?

I gotten my 55-250 tele is bcos I was in the same situation and missed the shots and that caused me to go with the tele to complement my kit lens. My kit lens is sharp enough although it's slow.

55-250mm then! And that's final! ;)

55-250mm goes well with your kit lens while 17-50mm is just a replacement of your kit lens with very little benefits apart from the obvious ones since they're similar range.

hey guys, wanna really thank everyone for always replying my BBB questions :bsmilie: i guess i couldn't justify spending another lens for now after getting my 10-22, so guess what, after work, i came straight home.

i think i seemed in a hurry because i wanna make sure i got the lenses i "think" i would need for my SBG competition shoot (ha, to think i even thought i may have a shot at it). i guess i kindof talked myself out from the tele for now as i rem someone once told me, "do you REALLY need to take that shot? Do you need to take EVERY shot that comes along or can you use what current set up to the best of its ability."

wah. made me realise i can always use my 50mm 1.8 to get some nice bokeh if i need, use my UWA mostly to play with angles and framing and my kit for backup if i need that range. ha. self denial or not?? :bsmilie:

Currently am in HK :) , getting a Tamrac Velocity 7x, any bros wants to check any pricing ? Let me know. Will be going to Kowloon on Thursday or Friday.

 Well, there are just some shots that need tele! :bsmilie:

Anyway, do experiment with your existing set and you'll realize what you need. ;)

not being a devil, But sooner or later you'll need a tele. :)

heh. eyeing e 70-200 f2.8 loh. :p

no IS? :bsmilie: Anyway it's quite heavy and will be really unbalanced without a grip. You really need an f2.8 tele ah. Doing portraits or low light photog?

:bsmilie: Perhaps you might want to rent one and try it out for a couple of hours for shooting. ;)

If the total weight means nothing to you, then just get it!
