Hi,
I'm new in this forum and I just recently got a Canon 300D and now...
Anyway, it surprise me that Canon Singapore actually allow their promotion period to collide with the announcement of the new Canon 350D when the "discontinued" Canon 300D is in the promotion!

i think the next sensible upgrade for 300D users shudnt be 350D but the 10/20D...for they offer more than just mere function upgrades but also offers phyiscal ruggedness which is missing in the 350D...
new cameras come out in august/feb for photokina and pma usually.
the promotion before this period is to clear stock.
the new cameras will be in end march or mid march.
the price will be "premium" price.. ie: suspect 350D will be 1850.
if you have a return policy from a reputable store, maybe you can try returning the camera. *highly doubt it in consumer unfriendly singapore*

sorry, i dun feel for you at all, you cannot use your 300D now? What was the intention of buying the 300D at the first place? If the specs do not suit you at all you should not spend the money anyway.

Why would it surprise you? Hmm... Digital gadgets are bounded to be replaced. The 300D still has about 1 month or so before it will be officially discontinued. If you are scared dun buy anything. When I bought my EOS 33 last year, less than 1 week later they released a 33v. But still it does not change my way of shooting, it is just a camera.

It doesn't actually collide. The 300D has about a month before the 350Ds actually arrive. So now it's time to clear stock. The 350D probably wun have a promotion until next year. So it's either buy now and get bundled stuff cheaper or pay more for newer stuff.
Don't be surprised, a large portion of Singaporeans actually tends towards the cheaper-is-good option. That's why some camera shops will always keep older models for customers who dun mind a cheaper but older model.

I'm not unhappy with my Canon 300D and in fact, I'm quite happy with the camera... I'm only unhappy with Canon Singapore... I know the product life cycle for digital equipment is very short, but I don't like the idea of using promotion as a way to clear stock especially in Chinese New Year period (Canon way of doing spring cleaning Ha Ha Ha ;p ). Unless they said it is a clearing stock promotion.
Anyway, the Canon 350D doesn't affect me much... Since I mainly use it for Astrophotography and I already got what I want in Canon 300D... a low noise sensor and mirror lock-up (Will miss only the 8 mega pixels). And my most importance requirement that no camera can give me is clear, steady and minimum light pollution night sky!

after reading Dpreview seriously it maybe worth considering this camera....
Hopefully we see similiar performance to the 20D...if so... i think there will be many more IR shooters soon... :devil:

If you follow the photography equipment or ask around here, you'll know that the major manufacturers will announce new products during PMA in Feb.
Actually, 300D is still a very good camera. The capabilty doesn't diminish with the release of a newer model. But guess, it doesn't feel good.

It is different. Its an all-new 8.0 megapixel APS-C size sensor developed specially for 350D. The 20D uses an 8.2 megapixel sensor. See here: http://www.dpreview.com/articles/canoneos350d/ (under summary of changes).mpenza said:
