Good thing about live mode is that u can select any spot in the screen as ur AF point rather then the common 9 point AF on your view finder. It adds more control and with the grid lines to assist you in big magnification. Moreover if you are using extension tubes, the viewfinder will be very dim. However if u are using live mode, u can tune up the brightness of ur LCD to see more. It is a really handy feature.
an update. i opted for the 100mm macro instead. definitely much heavier than the 60mm. it is very fun to use. but probably not for food shots. flowers are great with it.
good on you bro. i have an efs-60 too but often when i get close enough to take flying insects, they take off. i remember once the only successful shot i got at a grassy back lane near my place was... a snail!
it doubles up as a decent portrait lens though, pretty sharp. do note that AF is silent, but slow.
