yup plastic ones like the original, dont expect the construction to be exact replica of the original though..

had seen them in TCW, Orient Photo. (with the latter allowing you to place an order of a hood that is not in stock) ;)

Ahh okay. Looking for one for my 24-85. Do they tell you what focal lengths the hood can cover safely without vignetting?

at TCW, confirm dont know. at Orient, i am not sure if they have this knowledge..

but i know it would be useful to know what is the model number of the hood you need as it will help them to find the hood for you (or place an order if you really want it and they dont have stock)

Ahh. So, knowing the model number of the original Canon hood?

Doesn't the box of your lens tell you the hood model?

model number of the hoods? easy.. (considering i had been looking for 1 to zhng on a lens..)

17-55 is EW-83J
24-85 is EW-73II

Yes it does, and I know the model number very well.

Haha. Yeap. I know. Thanks. So I just tell them I'm looking for a third-party EW-73II?

tell them you want a Canon lens hood, model number blahblahblah.. 3rd party brand.
if you tell them the letters, it will make no sense to them.. :bsmilie:

if no stock, place an order at OP and they will get it over to sg in a couple of days :)

Ahh. Okay thanks loads FilterFunk.

I'm all for 17-55mm. You made the right choice, Donny! This and your L lens will cover most of your low-light needs, even if you plan to go into nude photography, let alone weddings!

Btw do you plan to get a filter for it too?

Ahh. Okay thanks loads FilterFunk.

no problem at all... ;)
i going nuts about hoods as of late.. (before that was tripods, until i got one recently) :bsmilie:

the only :thumbsd: part about this particular lens is.. the lack of hoods and only L lens get them.. :sticktong

I will still choose 16-35MII over this lens :bsmilie: guess the build matters alot to me since I'm paying so much. Not that the 17-55 build is no good.. but the L is way better

if the 16-35MII got IS i chiong again wahahaha :p (no la must wait for bonus first hor hehe)

EF-S 17-55mm is actually a very good new lens coupled with f2.8 + IS.

Most importantly, the price of this lens has fallen quite significantly to $1,400++ now.

For those who are eyeing this lens, this is the right time to get it.

I agree totally. Just check for de-centering issues when purchasing and be sure focus is properly calibrated for your camera. Then, be ready to be blown away by the image quality. :bsmilie:
