Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM - Budget Landscape Users Rejoice!

What I meant is STM is focus by wire, you'll need a electronic connection between the body and lens. I'd suggest you check this out first, since the 40 STM is focus by wire and it's highly likely that the 10-18 is focus by wire too.

I think richie meant that he will only be using MF, so whether or not AF exists does not matter to him.

MachBot - good point. I will go and check out first before spending the $$$. Thanks. :)

Jerrick - hopefully I'm not mistaken but I would do well to at least confirm it before I spend!

Ah damn it, I guess I'm still kind of vague.

Point is you need a electric connection to actuate the focus ring on the 40 STM in MF mode. If there's no connection to the camera, the focus ring won't work, regardless of whether you're in AF or MF.

If the 10-18 works off the same principal, a dumb EF to E adapter won't work.

Edit: richie owns the 40 STM, I think he knows what I'm talking about. ;)

You are probably right. The dumb adapter worked for my 70-300L because its FTM. Thanks again. :) Need to work out the math again already..

Ohh I see. Didn't know about the wire/STM/MF feature before. Thanks for the new info.

Even if mount on canon camera and didn't power on the camera, turning focus ring has no effect for STM lenses.

Iirc it managed to af when i mounted using metabones. But as expected it takes like forever. I got the bones iv because i needed the better construction for LE on ts-e 17mm. And yes, it manages to cut out the light leak. Otherwise i guess for most ppl metabones iii is sufficient

Does anyone here know latest price of this lens?

Not expecting it to budge much from $35x from two to three weeks ago.

Good luck with that :) Should prove to be a winning combination, i.e. good IQ, light and cheap. Maybe just a little slow based on the f4.5.
