Just bought it yesterday.
It's amazing... can shoot at low light w/o depending on the flash too much.
Just buy it... highly recommended.

Why not get a second hand 50mm f/1.4 USM? It could be bought for around $460. I bought mine at that price with 6 month warranty left.If only the 1.8 II were better built. I don't mind paying a bit more for better built quality.
with full-time manual focusing
wrong.
So which shop still selling the 1st gen f/1.8? Thanks in advance.
Correct me if I'm wrong. 1st gen made in Japan n 2nd gen made in Msia?
cheap, sharp, llight, convenience but very "plasticy" IMHO...
Agree. The built is also not very gd, but overall very gd value for money.
Just Sayang your equipment...
Plastic or metal if you are careful and don't have butter fingers you be safe...
Currently as to this date just got an e-quote for mscolour $135 incl. of GST and a free Hoya filter

What is the difference between the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 and a kit lens from Canon EOS 300D?
Better parts? Less moving parts? Better built? ??? Will it be better then the kit lens?
