Canon DSLR upgrading suggestions?

Seems you're leaning more towards primes and/or fast/high quality glass. Under these assumptions, a FF body is a more solid proposal.

In the case you prefer to pay less money for the body though, the option I would recommend above all would be the 70D. It is a very nice camera, well-thought out, and the few minor weak points the 60D had, have now been addressed in 70D.

Having said that, a x1.6 crop sensor camera was, is and will always be a compromise. Nothing beats full frame, this is the truth.

From full frame, the 5D Mk III is undoubtedly a well tested and proven tool - recently the price had another drop, so now it is even more competitive. One can of course go the 1D way, but that's a move to a completely different level of approach, and not many are into this.

From APS-C, my take is that the 70D is a very capable and quite new/fresh camera. The 7D is perhaps faster but it may well be replaced sometime this year.

Above all, go out and try, feel the cameras in mind. Nothing beats your own solid opinion on how the ergonomics and overall touch of each body feel in your hand.

I feel a real upgrade is to full frame.

Go with the range your budget allows.

I've been using the Canon 500D (primarily with 50mm f/1.8 and sometimes the kit lens)for about 3.5 years, and I feel like I've outgrown the camera by leaps and bounds. I primarily shoot landscape, travel, and nature/wildlife. Mainly I've been restricted to outdoor, naturally lit situations where my camera performs best. So right now I'm looking for something with great lowlight capabilities to shoot concerts / sport events / nightlife etc. Good video capability would definitely be great as well. I don't need things like geotagging / wifi.

I was looking at a few advanced cameras to upgrade to, and was wondering if you guys could give me your opinions on them:

  • Canon 5D Mark II
  • Canon 5D Mark III
  • Canon 7D
  • Canon 6D

Thanks!
hey i oso planning to replace my aging 500D, planning to get 70D.

as highlight on ur comment.

i think base on the list of camera u compile, i think a 5D mkIII or 7D. I will oso think 70D would be another good cheap option to look at.

it all depend on your budget and ur existing equipment compatibility.

for landscape, FF is always the choice but for sport, 7D is the choice.

1d series is the choice for sports, if it's within your budget of course.

Er... why do you think 7D would be the choice for sport? If it is fps... then yes, 7D had pretty good and fast fps, but 5DmkIII is actually not too bad, plus 5DmkIII had excellent and very accurate AF system that could nail actions very easily, and that was shown in a couple of reviews out there in the net.

From what I can see though, different people had different liking and style of shooting, some would prefer FF, others would go for APS-C. From my own experience, I can only see the use of the APS-C size because of its 'extended' focal length (multiply the crop factor)... that would make my lens 'more' tele if you get my drift.

Would like to ask also... 6D or 5DMII? :)

Do you need the weather proof capability of the 5DmkII? If no need... go for the 6D... it had a newer sensor and I believe the AF is better too... not to mention it would be better for low light performance.

6D = newer camera = better technology

Ok, now pending at 6D(70%) and 5DMII(30%)... :)

Thanks for the advices!!! :)

2nd hand 5DIII if budget allows rather than a new 6D.

2nd hand 6D is value for money too.

Second this.

Although some people like the "5d2 colour", I've never had any experience with it to back it up, so I'll go with 6d over 5d2.

5d3 over both of them any day if your budget allows.

Yes, I agree... if budget allows a new or 2nd hand 5D3 is KING.

5D3...
I have both 6D and 5d3..

For me.. I just like the 5D3..
The focus just superb.

I feel when I shoot with 6D.. I lost the flexibility to use more than 1 focus point.

Sometime, area focus is better when I use agak-ration..

The 6D is very good cam. It's smaller and lighter.

And newer technology doesn't mean beat 5Dm3..

It just not differ that much.

Not like 5d classic vs 5d3..

So..

Bottom line, if budget available, 5D3 + 24-70m2 or 50 1.2..

It will be awesome.. Just my 2cents.
