canon D550

18-135 covers enough...but, the issue with it is....its really a piece of crap. Its worse than 18-55.

Get kit 1. Good enough. Need more range? Buy 55-250. These 2 combined are better than 18-135 and 18-200.

why 18-135 is piece of crap??
less troublesome to change lens? in fact no need to??
care to explain why is it better to get 18-55 and then 55-250?

Iq wise, have to stop down like siao. If you prefer convenience go for 18-200 instead

18-55 and 55-250 is a much better combo as it gives better iq and it gives more range.

Even a 18-200 is better than 18-135.

i wont say the kit I or II,

If i get to chose the setup again, i will chose the 550d body alone and get the tam 17-50 f2.8 with vc, a 35mm f2 and a 85 1.8, enough for me...

you basing this dismissive stance on any concrete evidence, or just your opinion? If it's your opinion, best that you state so. tks.

okok. In my opinion. I actually played with that and 18-200 before settling with 15-85 :bsmilie:

Actually i only got one lens. One good lens that does everything based on my needs.

+1 for tammy.

135 is not much range?

135 on a canon APS-C = 216mm FOV. Not enough meh?

In the old days most people survive with a 70-200 with film (Fullframe). If you want to go birding get something in the range of 500mm or 600mm.

If 135mm on crop not enough i dunno how people get by with 70-200 on full frame. Wad do you mean by 'not much zoom'? You're being pampered by a 100-400L or something?

Lol.. it really depends on what you wanna photograph to decide on which range is "enough" for you.. I need mine for some sporting coverage or street.. so I have a 75-300... and also I have other sources of equipment... so yea..

15-85 sucks too... when compared to the 17-55 IS and 10-22 paired.

IMHO of course. :bsmilie:

No money...:( Unless you wanna buy for me?:bsmilie:

Actually 15-85 is not that bad when compared to 17-55. Just that when 17-55 stop down then no contest

Wait. Replace 10-22 with tokina. More power:bsmilie:

That one of course. That's why I am using the 116. :bsmilie:

But really the 116 is an acquired taste. Most people are too focused on "range". I rather take the F2.8 instead. ;)

gather all the advice, i think i should prefer kit I which the lens is 18-55mm.

cosz im very new in DSLR, exactly not sure what i need. so, need to seeks some advice to get my first DSLR camera.

all fast lens...

tok 11-16 2.8
can 17-55 2.8
can 70-200 2.8
24 1.4
35 1.4
50 1.2
85 1.2
135 2.0

this will be my dream setup..

Nah. Range doesnt matter when pri lens covers to 17 or 18. Who needs up to 22mm when it overlaps :bsmilie:

I would take out 50 f1.2 and 17-55 and tokina and replace with 5d mark ii kit + 17-40/16-35. Wait, is there enuf money from not getting those?

Note that people tend to "advise" you based on their personal experience. Few (myself included) have extensive experience with a variety of different brands. So I recommend Nikon, and others will recommend Sony, Canon, Pentax, etc. Then how?
Back to Square One. No conclusion.

Apparently some people do. ;) Everyone's shooting style is different.

Overlapping is not that big a sin. Sometimes you need to be able to switch from UWA to 20mm very quickly. E.g. in a wedding or event. And you may not have time to change lenses. A lot depends on needs.

i am newbies here and a beginner as well.

the canon D550 kit I, with lens kit 18-55mm is good enough for the beginner?

Thanks for the advice.

good enuf for me... i have 550D + kit lens of 400D (18-55mm non IS), which I heard isn't as good as the new one. in time, i'll probably upgrade, but for now it's already much much sharper than my Canon S90. took some nice Singapore skyline & NDP2010 fireworks photos w/tripod (stopping down the aperture to about f/6.3-f/8 also helped for the sharpness).

on the other hand, can try Canon showroom at Vivo... and see if the kit lens is good enough for you (versus the other lenses that you can try out there).
