I am a bit confused on this as well. First I enquired the Speedlite at AP, the guy told me they have grey sets (no warranty card at all). At OP, at first the guy told me it's shop warranty as it's not a local set. Then, when we checked the set, there is an international warranty card (serial # matches the Speedlite serial #), issued in Japan.

What is stated on the international warranty card is that, in summary, got card, got warranty. No card, no warranty.

Therefore, my conclusion is:
1. Parallel imports = grey sets
2. Grey sets with international warranty card = got Canon SG warranty
3. Grey sets without international warranty card = no Canon SG warranty.

Feel free to correct me if bros here have different experience to share!

What I derived is this:

Parallel imports = grey sets = sets with international warranty card = No Canon SG Warranty = Shop warranty = anything wrong bring back to shop and they will send it back to Japan to claim the warranty

For sets with Canon SG Warranty, the Local Warranty Card differs from the International Warranty Card.
