Canon A95 or Sony DSC-W7

At first I wanted to put the silica gel pack in it. But then, the manual didn't say we have to and it didn't provide any (although I did buy some already). So I thought just try a few dives without the silica gel and see how it goes, and it didn't fog up. I used it for only 4 dives. Don't know how it'll be for future and more frequent dives.

Thanks, will probably try without silica gel first then.

Back to the subject of this thread, wonder whether any A95 users with U/W housing can share some insight into the camera, u/w casing and the photos taken using the casing?

Hi Miko, can PM me where you got your MPK-WA? Thanks!

Not only Sony, as a matter of fact..every brand is racing each other with new product now...

Yeah, the recommended retail price for W1/W5/W7 housing is $466, some other model's housing is over $500. Felt "heartpain" when i decided on Sony camera n hv to cough up so much for the housing... BUT hey, i got my W5 housing at only $320 ;)

i think a lot of us here dont use manual white balance (though i have tried before) but still get coloured pics ;)

Do you mean to say that manual WB is not useful u/w for blue correction? What abt the u/w scene settings on some p&s, are they any good? (I figure they do the same thing?)

why dont you consider the A620? its the replacement for the A95..and it mostly addresses the shortcomings you mentioned for the A95. used it in phuket and it works really well. the manual WB helped overcome the lack of a strobe..

its got a good read/write speed, minimal shutter lag, a new digic2 processor, 0cm macro (marketing gimmick, haha!), and a 4x optical zoom. oh, and its 7MP too.

i tend to lean towards canon cameras compared to sony, mainly because canon provides more user control (WB, manual mode, etc). sony seems to appeal more to aesthetic needs than real photography needs. but this is just my opinion.

im using an A95 now..not sure whether to get A620, or bite the bullet and get an ikelite housing for my dslr..hehe
