Agreed... I tried to look for the housing of Olympus C750 which my bro bought less than a year (at that time), was also told the model had been discontinued. So this time, I bought camera and housing together, safer tat way. As the shops don't usually keep many housing stocks..if i buy the camera first i may not get the housing later... and if want to buy the accessories better buy within few months' time, if not it might be phased out soon... :dunno:

I don't deny the fact that Sony keeps on coming out with new model in a short period of time. For example, the W1 that I bought last year has already been replaced with W5.

As for the underwater casing, I don't think its > S$500 as mentioned. A check at Sony Singapore's website (see link below) revealed that the recommended price for the MPK-WA for the W5 & W7 (and potentially W1) is S$466. Since this is the RRP by Sony, I'm sure many retailer will be able to offer more competitive prices.

miko, i notice your internal flash is blocked by the barrel when u zoomed in, thus resulting underexposure in the lower part of the picture....if u still intend to shoot with ur internal flash in macro mode, turn the camera upside down. that way, it will be the upper part of the pic that is dark, and upper part is usually the water column or something....remember u can always rotate the pictures taken in pc

Eric

Not only Sony, as a matter of fact..every brand is racing each other with new product now...

Yeah, the recommended retail price for W1/W5/W7 housing is $466, some other model's housing is over $500. Felt "heartpain" when i decided on Sony camera n hv to cough up so much for the housing... BUT hey, i got my W5 housing at only $320 ;)

yeah, blocked a big part in many macro shots... turn the camera upside down.. great idea! but tat means i hv to use my left thumb to take the shot? using left hand might result in unsteady hand.. but with more practise guess sooner or later i'll get use to it :) thanks for this info, never even cross my mind. ;p

$320 is not a bad price. Called AP but they say currently no stock. I've managed to look at the box of the Sony underwater casing and noticed that it is compatible for W1 as well... :)

yup. i've checked, MPK-WA is for W1,W5 & W7 and also W15 and W17 which is not selling here.

Thanks. At least this confirms that the casing can be used for my W1. Now waiting for the supply to arrive before grabbing one. Miko, how do you find the build quality of the casing? Sturdy, easy to close and seal properly, buttons easy to press underwater? If I'm not wrong, the package should come with a grease that is to be applied to the o-ring to ensure good seal right?

actually the grease is to ensure the supple-ness of the o-ring....

ehm, sturdy I guess, not much difference with other brands' housings (not including Ikelite those custom made housing of cos) IMO.
Buttons, quite ok. But mind you I'm also a new user ;) my opinion may not be very accurate.
Yes it comes with a tube of silicone grease and 2 extra o-rings.

So the set contains 3 o-rings then ;)

Can't wait to get a set myself and try it on my W1. ;p

The statement that i made that sony casing is >$500 is based on the RPR for my P10, i have not checked the later models. But $466 is still the most ex of the lot.

Apologies for not making things clear enough in the 1st place

I've just got the MPK-WA over the weekend. However, there's only one extra o-ring bundled in the box (beside the one that's already on the case itself). Confirm there's 2 extra o-rings?

The case looks really cool! ;)

yeah... I have 2 extra o-rings.. :dunno:

Strange...I only have a spare ring. Anyway the set comes with a handstrap and a spacer right?

This case seems be low in stock currently. Went AP and they don't have stock. Fortunately the guy there helped me get a set then and I don't need to go home empty handed.

they usually don't carry a lot of stocks... I bought at Song Brothers n they only had 5 so I quickly grab mine.

Yes, it comes with the spacer and handstrap. But I prefer to take out the o-ring when not using the housing for some time, so the spacer is kind of useless for me.

Any problems or complains with the casing so far? The power button on the casing does not sit exactly at the centre of the power button on my W1 but it can still switch on the camera...so to me, that's good enough.

Now I just need to get a chance to use it...

I've seen people who placed some silica gel into the casing, evidently to remove the moisture and water vapour to prevent fogging and water condensation. Did you do likewise?
