Its called competition. With the bigger digicam players all touting FF cameras within the year, those FF camera prices, which are always at the top of the tree will fall. Likewise, the lower end cameras prices cascading together with it...

Actually, this sort of thing (expensive old models) only happens in Singapore due to the size of the market and its demands. In N. America, you can get 2nd hand cameras at VERY low prices.

As you said 2nd hand camera lol. My post did say that only the 2nd hand camera market will plummet. The first hand on the other hand will be slowly phased out and the distributer to prevent killing themself will lock the standard retail price to a certain point. Usually the only reason why they sell first hand cheap is when its no longer in production and they just want to get rid of left over stock.

Actually if you notice the only reason why our camera looks expensive is due to the fact we have to pay tax for it. Overseas the camera are cheaper due to the fact you can claim back the tax. The other reason is probably because Canon Singapore probably is more strict with the SRP then some other country. As such the shops cannot just lower the price as they like.

Just curious. Will the price of the 40D be dropping with the launch of the 450D (almost certain) and maybe 5DII or even the 7D?

Why should a entry level DSLR (400D or supposed 450D) have any effect on 40D? Different market segment. If you want a cheap 40D, look for it on the resale market.

40D resale not very cheap thou... 1600 2nd hand. might as well get new.
