Don't be surprised that some amateurs are better equipped than the pros.

True. And consider how much liquid assets the Chinese must have by now.

Some rich Chinese are chauffered in Bentleys to restaurants (friend told me from his observation in trip last year) where they order so much expensive food it covers the whole table, knowing full well they cannot eat it all. But must show, lah. That they can afford to do so.

so how ? this thread like so quiet ??? any insider news ? :bsmilie:

ya, my insiders confirmed that canon will definitely be launching new cameras in the future.....

Actually, to have a rough idea, no, actually a very good idea of what the 5D replacement will be like, have a long hard look at the 40D, and then imagine it having a 14MP full-frame sensor. That's pretty much it.

to further add on my earlier post, jan 24 is the date to watch out.
Canon will announce new products on that date.. the qns being is it printer/copier/camera/lenses..

its going to be an exciting day:D

Just curious. Will the price of the 40D be dropping with the launch of the 450D (almost certain) and maybe 5DII or even the 7D?

the 400D has abt reached the end of the pdt cycle already. its high time for the replacement to be out this year. :)

FF (7D or whatever it's called) at S$3500 sounds plausible to me. The marketing experts in Japan predict that the prices of high end cameras (i.e., DSLRs) will fall dramatically towards the end of 2008. Sorry, I lost the link.

If you actually notice, the only prices that really drop when a new camera is out is second hand price lol. If its first hand aka brandnew, if you look now, a 30D isnt much cheaper then a 40D. Its true that the 30D when launch is more expensive then 40D launch price but due to how the market work, it probably wont make sense just because a new model is out you going to dump the old model to worthless price. Especially in the field of audio visual products where a model 3 year ago can probably still perform very well (300D still takes fantastic pictures comparable with today dslr with a lower pixel count though). The masses in the end are very practical, go for the most affordable solution that your budget can afford. If you had 2k today and given a choice of 40D at 1.8k and say a 30D at 1.2k brand new, I probably will get the 30D lol. The only reason why electronics drop price especially like dslr is due to manufacturing enhancements where there is less defects and thus more output and lower cost cause unlike a microchip like cpu where you can sell it as a lower model if the defect isnt that bad, a defective sensor is a useless sensor.

That said, I probably guess 5D replacement will be slightly higher then the 5D if its a FF with newer tech. Else who will buy the 5D thats left? I highly doubt canon is stopping 5D production anytime soon. You cant sell a better camera at cheaper price can you? Also I believe it wont be much higher. If the price is like 1k difference, most people will just get a 5D instead. Either way audio visual market is a very dangerous market as the quality is usually subjective and that the biggest competitor is usually your own products lol.

Anyway Im just hoping canon will introduce another high quality EFS lens like the 17-55 lol. Camera body wise I look forward to the new consumer line.

Actually, this sort of thing (expensive old models) only happens in Singapore due to the size of the market and its demands. In N. America, you can get 2nd hand cameras at VERY low prices.

Any explanation as to why such a phenomenum will occur?
