Canon 70-300 F4-5.6 Or 70-200 F4L IS

This Canon lens is overpriced. It will faces serious challenge from the new Tamron 70-300 VC USD that cost just 1/3 of this Canon lens.

The new L will be rugged, and i'm sure will AF better than the previous model. Plus, this gives people more options.

Any news on the availability and price of the new Tamron 70-300? It has been months since they announced it.

For the 70-300 focal length and the 4-5.6 aperature. This will be very difficult to justify the cost paid to this lens, no matter how sharp it's image and how rugged it's built. You may see the review of the tamron below:

Resolution vise, I don't see Canon has any advantages over Tamron at all.

I had the 70-300 L. In many ways it is an outstanding travel lens with great contrast for portraits at 5.6. However, it is not match in resolution for 70-200 F4 or 70-200 F2.8. If you are after portability, go for 70-300. If you want great quality with outstanding corner resolution, go for 70-200.

I also have the 70-300 and also tried the 70-200 f/4 IS and both are outstanding performers. Depending on yr needs in fact, the 70-200 is a bit short at 200mm end on FF, that's why i bought the 70-300 instead. Both are around the same price.
